GoXLR - Mixer, Sampler, & Voice FX for Streamers & Audio-Technical AT2020 Cardioid Condenser Studio XLR Microphone, Black, Ideal for Project/Home Studio Applications

This device made it possible for me to remove a dbx 286, Scarlett focusrite interface, Mackie mixer and a Roland vt-3 voice changer. So many cords and cables removed from my 2 pc setup for streaming on twitch. Plug this device in and had a blast learning how to use it. I would say at the time of typing this I have about 10 hours played on the app that it comes with.Cons: at the moment I wish it was a way to turn the phones up as in your headset. If they update the app and make it so yoj could do this it would be amazing but it is to early to find out at the moment.Also if you need any help it's YouTube videos that help you out and you can join the discord and talk to real people that have this beast.Over all I'm happy with it and wouldn't go back to all the cords and cables. Also I use the Shure SM7B and it more then enough power to give it a clean signal.

Edit: After months of trying to use OBS noise filters to make the audio sound crisper for podcasting, I caved and started looking for a new board again. Now, in December 2019, the GoXLR MINI is a thing - smaller, fewer features, but same high-quality internals. Even after the bad experience with the bigger version, I decided to get an open-box Mini and give it a shot.After months of updates - including one that fixed the overwhelming delay issue in the live monitoring - this is hands-down THE audio mixer to get for podcasters and streamers. This mixer simplifies audio and makes you sound your best. The team has done an incredible job optimizing the software and improving it on every front. Now, the GoXLR and GoXLR Mini are worth looking into.------Original Review:I thought that I would upgrade from my Behringer Xenyx 1202FX and get something with a few more bells and whistles. The GoXLR looks great from the outside, jam-packed with features that any streamer, YouTuber, or podcaster would want. But when it really comes down to it, there are so many shortcomings all hidden behind RGB lights and gaming community hype.The most glaring problem with the GoXLR is its terrible self-monitoring. There is a small delay between the time that you speak into your mic and the time that you hear what is said in your headphones. Assuming that you're in the same boat that I am, this is something that changes the entire recording experience and is a constant distraction.Outside of that, the software for the GoXLR is lacking greatly. Although it can be figured out with some playing around and finagling, there are still a variety of shortcomings.The GoXLR is a fantastic concept, but it ultimately falls short because of the price. If this device was around $250, considering its effects and sampling capabilities, it would be a tempting purchase. But at $400 I shouldn't be forced to settle for less. That's a lot of money for a plastic audio mixer with a little extra tech.Given time, this line of products could be great. As with all "firsts", there is always room for improvement.

The initial unboxing process was pretty straight forward, but their Quick Start Guide is merely a glorified button layout sheet with a setup diagram. No real setup instructions so to speak except a small note on how to get the software.The device is not supported whatsoever on macOS since the software isn't available for those computers.Some of the features on the device seem to interfere with or counteract each other. For example, why have the Censor button when the Mute button is right there and twice as big. Their own marketing seems to be a bit confused on this, using the terminology they use to describe the Mute when talking about censoring.When I initially installed the software I got a Windows Smartscreen message saying it didn't trust the software. This was before the usual User Account Control message you get on Windows asking you if you want to install a piece of software. You are still able to install the software if you view more details on the message.They mention if the device is connected that you just need to disconnect and reconnect it to finish the driver install, but that was not the case for me. I could not start to get functionality between device and software until I restarted my computer.There is not a hardware 48V phantom power button, only a software switch between Dynamic and Condenser Mics. This also doesn't let you choose between the XLR and 1/8" mic input for headsets, so I wonder if one of these is disabled when using the other.In my experience I was not actually able to get input signal with a condenser mic at all. This was using 2 known working condenser mics with multiple different cables. The Dynamic mic I tried worked on either the Dynamic or Condenser mic setting.I was asked to update the firmware on the device, but when doing so it gets to about 5% then feeds back an error message saying the firmware update could not be installed. Trying to update the firmware also effectively locks up the device, as none of the front panel controls could be used on the device until after power cycling. Encoders would show activity but you wouldn't hear a change in Reverb or Echo for example.Some of the FX, such as Gate, EQ, and Compression are only controllable in software. I feel like it would be better to be able to assign functions to the encoders, so you can have access to what you use instead of having a pitch and gender encoder you never touch. These features use a 0-100 slider so in theory this can be assigned to an encoder without too much trouble.The concept behind this device is good, however I wasn't really able to dive in that deeply considering the issues with firmware and basic functionality.As someone that is familiar with traditional audio interfaces, the lack of hardware controls for vital features makes the experience a bit of a pain. Definitely not the ideal user experience I look for in trying to make my stream sound a bit better.

The product has simplified my setup. I had a mix of software routing, ran it through a processor and interface. I couldn’t hear exactly what was on stream. With GoXLR, I was able to reduce down to 1 device. I stream a Broadcast Mix to OBS and can mute/change volume with a simple hardware change. I like that the EQ is also able to modified using the app. It makes tweaking to find that perfect sound much easier to do! If you are a streamer and/or a podcaster, with just one mic, then it may be the right fit for you.

Selten ringe ich mich durch eine Rezension zu schreiben. Bei diesem Gerät fühle ich mich irgendwie dazu verpflichtet.Kurz zum Hintergrund: Benutze privat ein Mischpult (Allen & Heath ZED-10) mit einem Rode Procaster und mehreren Quellen vom PC (Voice, Game, Music - Alles auf eigenen Spuren). Mit der Soundqualität war ich immer zufrieden, allerdings hat die mangelnde ASIO-Unterstützung meines alten Mixers immer geärgert. Außerdem würde ich ein paar Kabel sparen und kriege direkt noch ein paar lustige Funktionen dazu (VoiceFX, Soundboard).Versand & Verpackung:Das Gerät wurde durch Amazon ohne extra Karton geliefert sondern in Originalverpackung versendet. Die Verpackung ist sonst nichts besonderes. Versand werde ich nicht bewerten, da dies nicht in eine Produktrezension gehört.Unboxing, Lieferumfang & Erstes Anfassen:Das GoXLR ist in einem großen Plastikbeutel verschweißt und wird sicher von zwei Schaumstoffstücken gehalten. Im Paket befindet sich noch das Netzteil, ein USB Kabel und eine Anleitung. Als ich es das erste Mal aus der Verpackung nehme, fällt mir sogleich das geringe Gewicht auf. Zwar ist mein Mixer ein wenig größer, allerdings kann ich auch bei Klopfen auf das Gehäuse des GoXLR hören: Innen drin scheint viel Platz zu sein.Ich schiebe ein wenig die Regler, drehe an den Knöpfen und stelle fest: Die Verarbeitungsqualität ist billig. Bei einem Preis von über 300 Euro hätte ich ein wertigeres Gehäuse und tadellos sitzende Regler erwartet.Zum Vergleich hole ich mein erstes Mischpult heraus: Ein Behringer XENYX 302USB. Ausrangiert wegen mangelnder Mikrofonverstärkung muss ich feststellen, dass selbst ein 40 Euro Mischpult über eine bessere Verarbeitungsqualität verfügt als das GoXLR. Und übrigens: Die Rückseite ist verzogen und liegt nicht eben auf. Habe es bei mehreren vollständig geraden Oberflächen probiert. Es ist krumm und schief.Erste Inbetriebnahme:Ich trenne mein altes Mischpult vom PC und verbinde das GoXLR via USB. Voller Vorfreude öffne ich die Windwos-Soundsystemsteuerung und muss leider feststellen: Kein neues Gerät da. Ohne GoXLR-App geht also nichts.Nach der Installation tauchen dann auch schon 4-Wiedergabe- und 4-Aufnahmegeräte in der Systemsteuerung auf. Gerade diese Funktion hatte es mir sehr angetan. Während bei herkömmlichen Mixern das Mischen aller Soundsignale auf dem Mischpult passiert und als ein einziges Signal zurück in den PC gespeist wird, hat das GoXLR 4 In- und Outputs, die man trotzdem über die Regler am Board steuern kann.Ich verbinde meine Kopfhörer direkt mit dem GoXLR, sollen also als Monitoringquelle dienen.Die Einrichtung des Mikrofons:Das Rode Procaster benötigt eine relativ starke Verstärkung und ich hatte gehofft, dass ich mir meinen Fethead (Mikrofonverstärker) sparen könne. Leider rauscht auch hier das Signal sehr deutlich, sodass ich den Fethead dazwischen schalte. Dafür muss ich die Phantomspannung einschalten, was widerum nur mit Kondensatormikrofonen geht. Separates Einschalten der Phantomspannung ist nicht möglich. Na, egal.Mal ein bisschen Probesprechen. Uff. Die Stimme kommt verzögert. Nicht viel, aber gerade so, dass es mich irritiert. Wer jetzt meint, dass man sich daran gewöhnen kann, der sollte mal ein normales Mischpult verwenden. Die Stimme kommt glasklar und sofort beim Sprechen ohne Verzögerung aus den Kopfhörern. Anders könnten Musiker gar keine Musik machen oder sich selber beim Singen hören. Hier ist das GoXLR also schonmal durchgefallen. Die Einstellungen in der App für das Mikrofon sind okay, aber sehr einfach gestrickt. Vielleicht sind meine Erwartungen zu hoch, aber es wirkt alles sehr kindgerecht und einfach, wodurch man die Feinheiten einer guten Konfiguration vernachlässigt.Das Knacken:Voller Vorfreude weise ich Programmen den einzelnen Wiedergabegeräte zu. Spiele & Systemsounds auf System, Spotify & Firefox auf Music, Teamspeak & Discord auf Voice. Ich starte mit ein wenig Musik. Klingt okay, ein wenig leise vielleicht. Meine größeren Kopfhörer mit 250 Ohm werden wohl einen Vorverstärker brauchen. Doch dann kommt das Knacken, das Stottern. Für einen Bruchteil einer Sekunde ist das Audiosignal weg. Kurz danach ist es für über eine Sekunde weg. Alle 30 - 45 Sekunden bricht der Sound ein. Ich starte den Computer neu, wechsele gar den Computer, gehe auf ein Macbook Pro mit Windows 10. Es bleibt dabei: Das Audiosignal knackt und stottert. Damit ist das ganze Teil nichts weiter als ein Haufen Plastikschrott.Im offiziellen Discord und auch auf Reddit wurde ausgiebig über das Thema diskutiert. Die Entwickler verweisen hier übrigens oft darauf, dass das Motherboard defekt ist, die Datenrate über USB zu sehr durch andere Geräte ausgelastet wird oder man mal Windows neuinstallieren soll. Ich verweise hier einfach mal als Ingenieur auf die Ausgliederung von Hauptfunktionen eines Mixers in die Softwareebene anstelle dies durch technische Hardware zu lösen mit einer veralteten USB-Datenschnittstelle. Man gliedert also Hauptfunktionen auf den PC aus, erzeugt aber gleichzeitig einen Flaschenhals, da man ein veraltetes Protokoll nimmt.Anstatt im Mixer einen Großteil der Soundbearbeitung durchzuführen ist das Gerät nichts anderes als eine kleine externe Soundkarte mit 4 Drehknöpfen und ein paar bunten Lämpchen. Die gesamte "Arbeit" wird auf den Computer ausgelagert und scheinbar mit so instabilen Softwarelösungen, die durch das Starten von unterschiedlichen Programmen so stark beeinflusst wird, dass es quasi unmöglich ist langfristig sicherzustellen, dass das Knacken / Abbruch des Sounds nicht vorkommt.Pro:- Es leuchtet und man kann die Farbe verändern.- Theoretischer ASIO Support für alle Spuren.Contra:- Absolut billige Verarbeitung der Regler und auch des Gehäuses. Zusätzlich ist das Gehäuse nicht mal eben und wackelt (siehe andere Rezensionen).- Ohne die eigene Software kann das Ding gar nichts und ist nur Plastikschrott.- Monitoring beim Mikrofon verzögert, sodass das Sprechen ein wenig merkwürdig wird.- Knacken / Stottern / Abbrechen von diversen Soundsignalen auf mehreren Systemen und Geräten.- Der Preis! Meine Güte, 300 Euro plus. Das Teil kostet in der Produktion maximal 80 Euro und die Entwicklung der Software läuft parallel durch ein kleines Team.Fazit:Die Idee hinter diesem Gerät ist lobenswert. Mehrere Ein- und Ausgabegeräte über einen Mischpult an den PC zu binden und dann über Windows die unterschiedlichen Programme den Spuren zuweisen. Die Umsetzung ist ein Totalausfall.Das Gerät bedient aber genau einen Markt: Streamer & Gamer. Da ist es hilfreich, dass die Zielgruppe in der Regel keine Ahnung von Audioqualität und Funktionen von Mischpulten hat. Man präsentiert eine einfache, optisch ansprechende Lösung und legt noch den RGB-Aufschlag drauf.Ich bin gespannt, wenn die echten Audioequipmenthersteller ein ähnliches Produkt herausbringen. Das würde ich mir nämlich sehr gerne anschauen.

I am loving this so far!My only pet peeve is that when your pc is turned off the lights on the product stay lit, meaning you have to manually unplug it from the wall every darn time you turn off your pc... a simple on off switch on the side of the unit it’s self would have been the obvious solution.

well it was bought as a gift.they like it, saod it was quite complicated to set up but loved it afterwards. the inbuilt noisegate and compression adds no latency so unlike using normal software there is no slight delay.however, the item arrived with no amazon packaging, and was scratched."was bought new" directly from amazon, i made amazon aware of this providing photos and they were extremely unhelpful.

Watch all the videos from TC Helicon showing how to get the basics and more advanced functionality of this device then let your imagination take it to the next level. The sampling functions are fantastic. If you have a basic sound editing program you can fine tune even further the samples you take on the fly with this device, sampling your friends in Discord or Teamspeak or on Skype etc, then instantly playing them back. All this before you use it for streaming on Twitch/Mixer etc with the ability to assign volume controls to 4 different sources at once. I honestly can't put into words how much I love this bit of tech. I record voiceover as well as stream and this has made my life so much easier with the instant feedback, effects, (de-esser is a life saver if you don't have time to properly warm up before an audition with lots of swirling specialistic supersaturated words full of s sounds.). Barely scratched the surface of this things capabilities and all this is still early days in it's lifespan. Looking forward to more software to take advantage of it's potential.
