The Very Best of John Williams: Trumpet, Book & Online Audio/Software Paperback – November 1, 2004

I am a big fan of Williams music and this book provides enough of a challenge for those who are intermediate or even advanced enough to get this book. The demo audio and all the other features provide through online access are fantastic. Lots of fun w a bit of a challenge.

Fantastic to have these themes as you can never go wrong with John Williams! The accompanying CD sounds OK for most of the tracks as it tries to recreate the orchestral experience, however, you can't compare with the real thing. That would be my only complaint about this set and also wish the music was in the same key as the OST so I could play along with that! Overall, would recommend for any player

Like John Williams music. Play the trumpet. You will like this book.

My son and I both play trumpet and he especially loves this book. The songs are exciting and challenging enough to keep him interested. He is a high school junior. This is not a beginners book. John Williams is fond of accidentals and time signatures other than 4/4. Background instrumentals are well done.

Santa brought this book to my daughter for Christmas. She has played trumpet for 4 years now and is considered to be one of the top players in her school bands. She plays jazz and classical pieces, is a soloist, etc. Some of the songs in this book are relatively easy for her, while others are challenging. (I have played trumpet for 30 years and there are a few songs where even I have to stop and study the music a bit!) There are no songs in here which "scare her" or anything like that. Since she knows a lot of the tunes from movies or from soundtrack albums, she is able to pick up the tunes reasonably quickly. What I especially like about this book is that she'll play for a good long time because she actually likes the songs. For a young trumpet player, playing for longer stretches of time is really important.

My son is a middle school trumpet player who loves John Williams, and this book has been excellent in helping him stay motivated and improving his playing. I would recommend it for other players at the appropriate grade level.

The music arrived in excellent condition and the music is fun to play. Unfortunately, the unique activation code was invalid so there is no accompanying music to play it to.

Better suited to younger (high school) students than his other, more difficult book of trumpet arrangements.

My son is having so much fun practicing these songs.

I bought this for my son whose trumpet playing is great once he's learnt a piece but sight-reading not so great. As with many budding musicians, he is sometimes less than enthusiastic about his practice. He loves these pieces - all great, brass-heavy John Williams offerings - and plays through them trying to get them right. There is the famous theme that he knows well and some sections that aren't so familiar so perfect for learning.They are pretty true to the originals so fairly tricky in places so his trumpet teacher is happy to work on them with him. The CD is great for him to play along with. Again quite challenging as the recordings go at the correct speed and you need to keep up which is also great practice for playing in ensembles. Fantastic backing track for a performance too.just to add having looked at the other reviews: my son has just done grade 6 and he still finds these good challenging pieces so not just for grade 3 and 4.
