Awesome transition puzzle
I got this puzzle for my almost 2 year old. He LOVES puzzles but had moved past the 9 piece board puzzles. I was looking for something that would help him transition from 9 piece board puzzles to the 25 piece free form puzzles.The puzzle pieces are wood and there is a wood tray/border the puzzle fits into. When we first got the puzzle I pulled out sections at a time, increasing the size of the section each time. By the end of a couple of days, he was doing the puzzle without assistance. The animals are lovely and identifiable. The number of different colored animals makes this puzzle easier than the Melissa and Doug 24 piece dinosaur puzzle (which we also have but he struggles with). The pieces have become much easier to pull apart and fit together as the puzzle gets loved.The pieces have stood up to tons of use, stepping on them, throwing them, biting them, peeing on them (twice...oh the joys of potty training boys). I love that I can scatter the pieces and get some time to myself to cook dinner or have an adult conversation. Once he conquers the dinosaur puzzle I think we'll try out free form puzzles.

Well made puzzle built to last.
I've bought a number of Melissa and Doug puzzles and I've mostly been pleased with the quality. This is a 24 piece puzzle. On the up side, it's set within a wooden frame so that the puzzle can be stored and assembled nicely. On the down side, there's no image, once the puzzle has been broken up, for the puzzle solver to refer to. While this puzzle is well made and will last, the pieces take a bit of pressure to slot into place. Plus expect your new wooden puzzle to 'shed' until it's been used for a while. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase and will continue to buy Melissa and Doug wooden puzzles. They cost a bit more than other puzzles but I have had to throw away filmsy puzzles that didn't last a week.

Good quality
My puzzle loving kids love this one. Makes them use their brain harder because it’s not in a box with a picture. Really good sturdy pieces, fun colors and picture !
