Great, but could've avoided a return with slightly better instructions.
Great chair, but be aware of one thing outlined below. I returned my first one because I thought it was defective. After receiving my second one (I only purchased one because it is for sitting at a drafting desk), I now can see what the issue was and if there were better instructions, wouldn't have had to return. I feel certain that the first chair I got was a return from someone else, because it was packaged differently than the first and because there was no black cap covering the hydraulic button for raising/lowering the seat. I didn't know that there usually would be until I received the 2nd one, of course. The second one came with a black cap covering the orange piston button with a clear label stating to remove before placing the seat onto the bar. I did so, and no problem. The first chair had no cap. When I put the upper part of the bar/seat onto the hydraulic part of the bar, the chair would not raise and lower. I pulled it back off, and looked at where the manual lever for raising and lowering hit. There was a black cap covering where the lever would hit. I thought perhaps that was part of the design as you could still see the lever moving underneath the cap. When I looked up into the bar with the flashlight, it looked like there was a plastic sheath that the piston part should fit inside, but that when I put it on, the plastic part had bent, meaning the piston did not fit all the way into the hole. Now I know what happened. Someone had previously attempted to put this chair together, but had not removed the cap over the hydraulic button. I thought it was a faulty sheath and that had been put in crooked so that the bar didn't fit straight in as it should, but turns out, I could've removed that black cap altogether if I'd known it was just a piece that didn't belong. It would've been tough to do as it was wedged so tightly (another reason I thought it was just part of the design), but I think I could've done it. If the instructions had also shown that there was a cap to remove off of the piston end, maybe I would've figured it out, but the on my second chair, there was only a sticker on the cap itself stating to remove. Of course, on the first chair, I never saw this sticker because the cap was already wedged inside the bar when I got it. So, just know, when you look up into the seat end of the pole, there should be nothing but metal. :-) Either way, I was able to return for free to Amazon, and they sent me another chair promptly. As others have stated, the base already had a dent in it when I received, but I am not concerned about that. It is not noticeable unless you are looking. Chair is very comfortable, and I think I can sit at my desk and work happily for many hours. I do wish the back was adjustable (able to move forward and back), as I feel it does not make you sit up straight enough, so that if you are actually using it to lean back on for long periods, you will be slouched, which is not the best for long periods of sitting. So, you can either just sit up straight on your own, or put a small pillow behind you.

One Year Update...Still Decent for the Price
***Update: After owning these for over a year and a half, I’ve had to change my rating from 5 to 3 stars for the following reasons.• The finish is exactly that - a top coat, fake finish. I assumed the “bentwood finish” meant it was stained wood, but it’s not. I have no idea what the actual substance is under the finish, I assume pine? It comes off very easily, which it really should not do. I originally thought it was my toddler hitting the edges to the countertop, but as you can see in the photos, even places that don’t make contact are showing significant wear — and they were moved out of the kitchen shortly after my first review, so he hasn’t touched them in a year. I’ve had to put scotch tape over them to prevent further damage.• Seating anyone over 80 lbs. on this chair at its top height is not advisable. It WILL break. Luckily, I’m a mechanically-inclined woman and was able to fix it.The positives below from my original review still apply. The vinyl seat has also held up incredibly well, and is still comfortable and without any denting.** I bought two of these for our kitchen island and they work wonderfully as well as add a bit of a modern look. The wood is beautiful and compliments my dark oak very well. They must have changed their packaging since a review I saw that stated the pieces were rubbing together in transit, because the seats were separated in the box from the metal parts and each component was securely wrapped and cushioned. I managed to put them together while wrangling a rambunctious toddler in about 15 minutes as well, which was a relief. I was worried the upright wouldn't have very much resistance when adjusting height but they work extremely well and don't drop too quickly like some I've had in the past. The seats are very comfortable and will accommodate even a rather large behind! (Thanks for testing that for us, Grandma!) The only drawback for these chairs is that they will chip if confronted with a quartz countertop; then again, if you don't have a toddler flopping them back and forth you'll be fine. Overall these are a STEAL for the price compared to our local furniture store. Well worth the investment. I'll be buying 4 more for our basement bar.

Beautiful and simply built
I have to admit - I am not an original "style" thinker... I saw bar stools at a friends house that looked "like" these, and totally fell in love with them. I saw these on Amazon, and they looked so similar to my friends, but they paid $149 at Gardner White Furniture for them (each). When I saw them listed here for 40% less, I figured what do I have to lose. I was halfway expecting to open one and say "no way, this is junk, im sending them back!!", but when I got them I was pleasantly surprised - they are sturdy and seem to be very well built, albeit simply. You slide the main post into the base on the floor and it stays in the base with friction - no nuts or bolts to hold it. So far, I haven't had any problems as it seems to be very locked in.The material on the seat is nice and the cushion is comfortable. It hugs you in the butt and back. The chair goes up and down with a hydraulic support. If I had one complaint - and its MY fault so do not take this to heart - one of my guests spun the chair and it hit my granite bar top, which resulted in peeling off the wood grain. However, according to the stickers all over the box saying to call Flash Furniture before sending it back to Amazon, I called the company and they are sending me a new back. All in all, I would recommend these. I will update my review with pictures eventually.

Really nice for the price!
Very simple to assemble and it’s pretty comfortable too. It comes with a cheap plastic trim piece for the bottom of the stand pipe though. I didn’t use them as they are not really nessasary and it looks great! I am very happy with this purchase. BTW, I got 2. OOPS , I found a ding in the base. Visible when the light hits it just right. Darn, darn, darn!

Beautiful stools
I've had tons of compliments on these stools since I bought them, as they really match with the mid-century décor in my home. They were very easy to assemble, are quite comfortable, and the quality is great so far. I'm really glad I made this purchase.

ordered 3; all slightly damaged
They look great, but arrived slightly damaged. Not damaged enough to notice at a casual glance, but still enough to be disappointing. We ordered 3, and all three had scuff marks
