Time Hollow. 2019 thoughts.
Time Hollow is a great game ...If your reading this now, I guess you've played it or are collecting for the DS and wondering if this is a suitable addition.BINGO yes it absolutely is!!!!It's become a collectible so the price is going up a bit now.Anyway, I just finished playing it (2019) and I really enjoyed it ....To me it really played a lot like the Ace Attorney series (just short of it in greatness imo) ....In that you can travel between locations and talk to the cast, who will provide clues and information into the mysteries that must be solved to progress the story. The mysteries are set into days ( chapters) that end, similar to completing a case in Ace Attorney. There are some segments of anime segments throughout the game.In terms of story it's decent.I'd say the less you know about it before playing the better as everything will be new for you, suffice to say it's a time travel story. It has point and click style element, but it's done much much better than those cheaper point and click style games that the DS is home to a lot of.It's produced by Konami so you can be sure it has a solid quality to it.I collect for the DS and am chuffed to add this less common game gem into the collection.Deffo worth a play through, I got mine Cib for £30 and think it was worth every penny.I'm giving it a... 8.5/10

A good game while it lasts
This is another game i've wanted since hearing about it. I loved hotel dusk and another code, and hearing the game is like these (an interactive story) i decided to buy it a few days ago.The basic element to this game is changing the past to put things right, but with one solution comes another problem and so on. I don't want to give too much away as the story is brilliant and i enjoyed it.There are so many reasons why i loved this game- firstly, the music (especially the theme song) is excellent and so is the background animation. What really stands out are the animated sequences (like the ones found in professor layton) and how well they look on the ds. Once again, it shows that the ds is capable of producing games with great graphics. The characters are brilliant and even when they change, you still recognise them. The situations felt real and i just wanted to see what happened next. As i said, the story is brilliant and has so many twists and turns, it will want you to carry on until the end. In the continue option on the title screen, there is an option to go back to the beginning of the chapter- a good feature if you feel you've missed something vital. There are one or two niggles- firstly, the game is an interacive story. There aren't any puzzles to solve as such, apart from finding out about where you need to be. Think more hotel dusk than professor layton. The game has a LOT of text, so if you don't like that kind of game, stay away. There aren't that many places to visit and although more open up as the game goes on, these disapear and you don't go back to them. Some may find the lack of places to visit a bit boring but again, i didn't mind as more places might have spoilt the story. The reason this got a four star is as follows: the end part i needed a waklthrough guide (although i won't hold a grudge just for that), the game play is EXTREMELY short (i completed the game in about 5 hours) and it has very little replay value. Once you know the story, it has no different ending, however, i may go back soon as i liked the story. There are a few tips i'd like to share with you as well:Firstly, at the beginning of the game, tap everything when prompted and DON'T follow the cat. I did this the first time round and the game ended in 6 minutes!Secondly, save often. It promts you to save at the end of each chapter but an option inbetween is nice too. There is no option to go back to the title screen so if you need to knock it off for whatever reason, just save the game and switch off your ds. Also keep a walkthrough guide to hand and scroll the screen from left to right- you never know what you'll find.Thirdly, if you're pen's low, find your cat by prowling the streets. Won't say why as you'll see in the game.If the game had been longer, i would have given this a five star rating, plus a few option ending would have been nice. However, this game has a brilliant story and feels different to what is currently being offered on the ds. If you're unsure, try hotel dusk as i feel this game is closer than another code in terms of how the game is layed out. Overall, a very good game while it lasts.

Interesting concept but slow gameplay
I really loved the concept of this game, which is the ability to change the past to influence the future and the consequences involved in doing that. The game is well thought out with a solid plot but it's not perfect and some tweaks along the way might have made it a masterpiece among the DS point and clicks. One thing that should be stressed is while this game plays like a point and click, it is nothing like a traditional point and click. There is no true Inventory, and no using of items on things or to do things, other than the hollow pen. Moving the game forward is done by talking to people, finding things and by ''digging'' - which is where you use your hollow pen to ''dig'' (draw) a hole into the past, through which you can manipulate things. As well as a list of items, which you can only use during a ''dig'' - you have a list of flashbacks, which you must identify to move on. Identifying being to find out when, where and what it is.The main problem in the game is that it was both too easy and at times frustrating when it seemed impossible to move the storyline forward. The game does give too many hints, so there's no thinking involved, but there are some bits where you know what you want to do - but can't find the person/thing to proceed, thus stalling the game. It is very linear, but for most things needed for progression, the main character will think/say what is needed to be done. One of the most common problems I found for stalling the game was not identifying a flashback, which you have to do manually, so while you think you've done everything - that's waiting to be done (it's in the game menu). The game would have been better with more traditional point and click devices, such as puzzles. And less hints on what to do. Because it was so easy in points, it became boring as you slogged through some of the less interesting parts of the game. It could have been a lot better, but there were signs of corners being cut within the game - the most glaring of which was the naming of incidental characters, which for example, one was called ''Male Student A''.Overall, I really enjoyed this game, but it's a game to be played at one or two sittings, if you leave it between playing - you forget what's going on, and it's easy to lose interest then. It had a lot of promise, and it didn't quite live upto it. But it is a unique concept which works perfectly on the DS, backed up by a good story line and an interesting group of characters. I'd recommend this to all adventure/point and click gamers, but warn anyone looking for puzzles to steer clear.
