Wow! This device changed my life.
I bought this light box and also the smaller version (Aurora LightPad). I liked this one, the Max, better than the other one (hereafter referred to as the Mini). However, I ended up returning this one and keeping the Mini. All in all, both of these light boxes are excellent and I highly recommend them and light therapy for people with seasonal affective disorder. Using these light boxes has changed my life, I look forward to using them for many years to come.Pros:* It works! I experienced relief the first day I used this device. It took several weeks to enjoy the full effect, but I started to feel better immediately.* This light box doesn't get hot. The back will get very warm, but not hot, and when you sit in front of it you won't feel warmth radiating off of it.* It's very bright and has the longest working distance (30") of any light box I've found.* The lights will last a very long time so I don't need to replace them* The light that it generates is very nice. It's bright but seems less harsh than the light cast by the Mini.Cons:* This light box is compact compared to older style suitcase-size boxes, but it's not quite small enough. Specifically, it's quite thick and it weighs about 2.5lbs. Between the size and weight I was not able to find a stand that could hold this lightbox up at an appropriate height and angle for optimum effectiveness. Though the light surface area is about the size of a very large tablet, it's much thicker and heavier than a tablet which means that it won't work with pretty much any stand that is designed to hold a tablet. The built-in stand (a kickstand on the back) might work if you have a shelf in just the right place, but I don't. I was able to find a stand that works well with the Mini.* I had a hard time working the on/off and brightness adjustment on this device. On/Off and brightness levels are all controlled by the button on the front center of the device. One morning I didn't find out until the end of my session that the brightness was not set correctly. At that point it was too late to fix it. The device does not remember it's brightness setting from one session to the next, so you need to set it correctly each time you use it. All in all, I would much prefer having two switches, one for on/off and one for brightness. I found the button difficult to use in part because you need to be able to find it without looking at the device (even on it's lowest setting, it's too bright to look at). Invariably this meant blindly finding the right or left side, then the bottom left or right corner, and then working my hand across the front until I found the button (this takes a lot of hand or you might miss the button completely and end up on the other side of the device). I found the button on the Mini which works in exactly the same way a bit easier to use, possibly in part because the device is much smaller.* The cord should be longer. The cords for the Max and the Mini are the same length, both of them are too short. Specifically, both cords include a large transformer box and the distance between that box and the device is too short.I only recently found out that I have seasonal affective disorder. These are the first light boxes I've owned. Many years ago my parents suggested that they thought I had seasonal affective disorder but the size and cost of light boxes available at that time meant that I didn't get one. I'm very grateful that Alaska Northern Lights has developed these excellent products that provide relief that is effective, accessible, and reasonably affordable.

Best SAD light, among the many that I have used.
This reputable manufacturer sells two of the best SAD therapy lights that are available. That is why they cost so much because you really must pay $300 or more, if you expect any SAD therapy light to serve a therapeutic purpose. This model uses LED's. Their other model uses fluorescent bulbs. It is their NorthStar 10,000 LUX - SAD Light Therapy Box.I have owned both, as well as many others; and so, I know firsthand. Each has their advantages and disadvantages. What I like best about this LED model is that the spectrum is whiter, and hence more true to noon-day sunshine. What I dislike about it is that its small size necessarily means the light won't disperse well, if your intent is the make a dim room feel sunny, throughout. It is therefore best suited for illuminating one spot in a room. That will workout well, if one spot in a room is where you spend your time. The light may seem too harsh, at first. Give it a couple days, before asking for a refund. If it seems too harsh, it is only because you are not used to bright light. That is reason enough to keep using the light, rather than returning it for refund, because bright light feels harsh only if you have not been getting enough of it.The advantage of this manufacture's fluorescent model, which is their other model, is that its larger surface area makes it better-suited to create a sunny effect throughout an entire room. Its light is also warmer and easier on the eyes because its light is not a pure white and not as bright.A disadvantage of their fluorescent model is that it generates significant heat. All that heat means electricity is producing as much heat as electricity is producing light. It is inefficient.I spoke with the manufacturer. They advocate this LED light as their latest and greatest model. Their criteria is that is uses LED emitters; solid-state circuits; less wattage; light-weight; smaller size; and greater brightness. It also has a lifetime warrant and requires no maintenance, such as replacing costly bulbs every two years.LED lights are the future of SAD light therapy. If you buy a fluorescent model, instead; you are buying into technology that is being phased out.

Excellent brightness and overall quality! Would buy again.
I really like this light. I had previously purchased the mini light and use daily and like it. No issues at all, but I was also looking for something to put next to my computer, and this does the trick. It seems to have a wide field, spreading the light broadly so you can move around a little bit. What I really like about this light it is about the size of a large iPad. It does not flicker like some of the other lights I have tried. This one is easy to set up, and so far, I think it's working. The bottom line is, I would definitely purchase this again. This light is quiet, dependable, and it seems to work for me. Completely worth the money, and I would purchase this again.

GREAT LIGHT. FUTURE IS SO BRIGHT!
It is really bright and will help you reset your circadian rhythms and Ward off the blues. The only caveat is that on the backside, the stand can get knocked off.Functionally the light is excellent. And they are one of the most well-reputed brands.

Great product
This lamp is everything I was looking for. It is very bright and has completely changed how I feel during these winter months. It is much more practical to use than cheaper lamps, and has enabled to get light therapy while sitting at my desk doing other things. The light is very intense and it took a few days to get used it. It is a little harsh, but it is very white as opposed to other lamps which can have a yellow hue.The price is a lot higher than other ones, but you get what you pay for. I can do 1-2 hours of therapy without a problem, while I struggled to do even 30mins with other ones. The only negative thing about it is the integrated stand, which is annoying to adjust and feels a bit cheap.
