The Best Purchase I Made for Our Little Dog (Maltese) - She Uses It Every Day
I have been using Piddle Place for a couple months now. Our maltese uses it multiple times a day and enjoys it.Overall I have recommended this to all my friends with little dogs. If you dog is under 15 lbs and stays indoors and presently uses pee pads, I would not hesitate to pick this up. It is well worth the money.Prior to this, my dog used the All-absorb Training Pads 100-count, 22-inch By 23-inch and we would go through 2-4 per day depending on the day. I also took her walking about 10 times a week, so most days she did have a walk. However some day it would rain and she would use the pee pads exclusively. We have since switched to the Piddle Place and no longer use any pee pads. She still gets walks 5-10 times per week but I estimate she uses the piddle place 2-5 times a day. On rainy days she uses it for both pee and potty.Q: Does it smell?A: No, it does not smell at all. I use the Bio+ Treatment Base Unit Maintenance (Set of 4). I change it about every 2-3 weeks because she is a small dog. I know that it recommends changing it weekly, I do not. I should note that with the pee pads, I could absolutely smell the pee even from the next room. So it's not like my dog's pee doesn't stink =)Q: Some sellers won't ship me the spray, can I still use this?A: I live in Hawaii, people hardly ship me anything. Yes, I bought Bio+ Treatment Base Unit Maintenance (Set of 4) and what I do is I mix it with 10 oz water instead of 8 oz. I then pour 8 oz into the base unit. I then mix 6-8 oz more with the leftover 2oz in the cup, and pour that into a spray bottle. I use that as my enzyme spray. So far so good.Q: Pee and poo?A: Yes, although pee constantly throughout the day and some days poo once or none if we walk her. The pee is no issue and it goes right through. The poo we pick up with toilet paper and flush it. Either way I spray it with Bio+ Treatment Base Unit Maintenance (Set of 4)Q: Was it hard to train?A: No, but just like Good Will Hunting my dog is wicked smaht and she picked it up in a day. What I did was put the Piddle Place exactly where her pee pads were, and put the pee pad on top. She peed on it once, and I moved the pee pad below the turf (with pee still on it). I was then able to confirm she continued to pee on the piddle place green patch, and onto the pee pad. I removed the pee pad, and she has been fine ever since.Q: How hard is it to empty?A: Real easy. I take it to the toilet, open the spout and pour the pee out. I also grabbed a regular 2 liter bottle cap and put it over the end just in case to prevent leaks. Seems totally unecessary as it has not been an issue, but I figured I would do that just in case she ever hits the switch to open the spout.Q: How hard is it to clean?A: Easy. I took it to the bathroom and emptied it in the toilet. I then lay a beach towel on the ground. I took the green turf, put some dishwashing liquid on it and wet it. I rub the turf against itself to suds it up and I sprayed it down with our showerhead. Put it on the beach towel to try. Put dishwashing liquid on the plastic base, and just sprayed it up and down with the shower head. Leaned it in the tub, patted the green turf dry, and then picked up turf and put the plastic base on the beach towel. Rubbed the bottom dry, put green turf on and refilled the Bio+ treatment - good to go. Less than 15 minutes to empty out, hose down, dry and refill with Bio+ treatmentQ: Does your dog tear up/pick up the "grass"?A: No but other dogs might. See "wicked smaht" note above. In all seriousness, I think our dog is pretty well behaved and plays with toys we teach her to play with. A more playful/curious/rambunctious dog? I could see it being a problem. If they play with their pee pads, they will probably play with the green turf.Q: Does your dog use it for naptime?A: I was worried about this. This is why I let her use a pee pad on top of it first and then put the pee pad underneath. I suspect that even though I use the Bio+ Treatment Base Unit Maintenance (Set of 4) and it doesn't smell at all to me, that maybe she can smell it. So she knows it is her bathroom and not her bed. I think it also helps that we keep a little dog bed maybe 10 feet away and put the piddle place in her "pee zone" in the corner. So she picked it up quick.Q: How much does it cost to maintain?A: I spend about $4-6 a month on the enzyme treatment. I am supposed to change the green turf after 6 months, so that comes out to $4 a month. I am going to assume that this piddle place will last the life of my dog, so lets just round that to $1 a month. I estimate then for a small dog like mine, it is a $10 a month investment to ensure your dog has a nice place to pee and poo, save you time and your house won't smell of pee. To me for the time savings alone it is worth it compared to taking her outside if I even go out 1 less time a day (we take her out 1-2 times a day). However in addition it is actually cheaper than the pee pads I was buying because I was spending $15-20 a month on those. So in a year or two you'll recoup your investment compared to pee pads AND it's a better solution.Overall, five-stars, I paid for it with my own hard earned cash and it was well worth it.

In theory it works, not in practice
In theory the piddle place was perfect. However in practice it was definitely not. My dog hates the green absorbent lining. He doesn’t even like to stand near it. I’ve been making use of it was placing a pee pad on top of it until I find another solution. The other thing is that my dog doesn’t like to pee and pop in the same place, so had it worked, I would have had to buy two for him. Therefore the search continues.

Very Happy So Far for our Puppy
I got this for our puppy. I live in a 3rd-floor apartment and was dreading the house training, running up and down the stairs; I have a very large patio and a little door my cat already uses to hang out there, so I figured I would give this a try.It took a few days for me to get him to use it but once he did we are doing really well with it. He doesn't like to poop on it, he likes to poop any random place on my patio lol, but I've been trying to get the poops on our walks anyway; he is already peeing on it on his own consistently though. It is great when he wakes me up in the morning to just be able to take him out there and not truck up and down the stairs while half asleep. There are a few conditions to my good rating:- I would not like having this inside my apartment and I know many people use this indoors, maybe once he is older and not going so often, it would be ok, but I am good with it outside on my patio.- I would not use this if he was not a toy breed; I just would not want to deal with that much waist in a living space, even an outdoor one. It is also pretty small and I feel like bigger dogs might miss the mark more often, I could be wrong there though.Couple key things I was worried about and my thoughts after using it- Odor: not so bad, it is where my dog is going to the bathroom but I only smell it when I get up close to it and am spraying it or cleaning it.- Cleaning: it is easy to clean and empty. I got an extra mat and it is great that the mat is machine washable, I just rotate them, it is still gross because it is what it is, but it is tolerable. It's about the same as if you were cleaning up all the waste in your yard, an unpleasant job that has to be done.- Dog "missing" the mat. Like I said, with number 2 he is not as consistent, especially if he did a little and did not finish he will not go back on the mat until I clean it, can't really blame him there; I am hoping that will solve itself as he gets older and doesn't have so much unfinished business. He hasn't missed at all with piddle.Overall, I think this thing has made having a puppy in an apartment so much easier and less stressful and I am really glad I found it.I did get a small pet waste can I use to pick up the poo and empty every day or every other day with my trash; if you plan on them going #2 on it and can't conveniently dispose of it right away I recommend that. I also recommend waiting an hour or so before picking up poop if it is not inside, it gets harder and doesn't stick to the mat that way.I gave this 4 out of 5 stars because I do believe it is situational and personal to how sensitive you are to pet waste and where you want to keep it. I think it is a great thing for small dogs or maybe senior dogs who need a close place to go.
