Not audiophile level audio but great speaker
I enjoy music through all kinds of sound gear, some reaching levels of audiophile realm. *This Altec Lansing is lacking in a level of clarity that I would expect from the brand.. for the full retail price it's a bit disappointing if audio quality is your main concern. However for a tough speaker that goes about anywhere without much worry, the price is warranted. You're paying for the toughness and its ability to produce decibel levels... Maybe the secret lies in the equalizer app but the app has such poor rating on Google Play I would rather use a 3rd party eq.*edit: I've had the speaker for several days now and it appears the sound needed some time to clean up. Not sure if it was the few recharges or maybe playing at a loud (without distorting) levels opened up the speaker from new. It's a bit more clear than fresh out the box and charged overnight. The bass bloat has subsided to the point of no longer intruding into the mids and the highs have cleaned up a bit. Again maybe the battery needed a few recharges or the speaker needed some play time to open up but the sound is considerably better. I would give it a 4.5 stars based on still being a pricey speaker2nd edit: while the audio quality is the same as intial impressions, I have ran this speaker until it's drained. The battery is unmatched by many other BT speakers of this size.

Good quality.
Edit* I'm super surprised to see so many people having issues with their speakers. I've had mine for over a year and have had only one issue as stated in my original review. It's seen tumbles, water, and still works and looks the it did when I first got it. Anyway continue on to my original review.Superb audio quality. Unmatched clarity. Deep bases. I can hear audio I've never heard before from any other type of audio drivers. Could easily completely replace car audio. Obviously the woofer/subwoofer is tiny, but it's still of high quality. I have the mini life jacket 3s, life jacket, and this one, and cannot get any of them to pair with each other.

Most value for your money
I love this speaker. It is solid and heavy. The light features work great. The sound quality is exceptional even maxed out it doesn't detonate. The outer plastic housing and the rubber bumpers that surround it are very thick. It doesn't slide around on any surface. The phone pairing feature works great and the caller can hear you if you talk through your speaker hands free without yelling. I love this thing. I searched and tried out all the different brands at Wal-Mart amd watched all kinds of video reviews on YouTube for all the brands but kept coming back to the Altec Lansing brand. They build quality stuff. Oh and the battery on this new unit lasts all night and afternoon when I sleep in on Saturday s.. still running after I wake up. Great value for your money.

Exactly what we were looking for
We now own 2 of these .one is permanently mounted to our side-by-side ,holds up on the trails in rain ,mud and dust. The 2nd one we take with us on other adventures including tubing down the river The 2nd one we take with us on other adventures including tubing down the river and camping. Sound quality is great for what we use it for and we have yet to drain the battery fully . Lasts for the many hrs we use it in each outing.

Sounds Great
Bought this for a backyard speaker. Great sound, waterproof, and durable. And it has lights too. Battery seems to last forever. Can’t say anything I don’t like

wow just wow
The media could not be loaded. I’ve been using altecs products for a while now. I owned the original super life jacket and I had that speaker for about 6 to 7 years and it’s one of the best speakers I’ve ever owned. Unfortunately, when that speaker started to blow out I decided to go with more of their products considering I had such a great time with my life jacket. I was excited to see that they had a newer, super life jacket just with far less features. Less battery life and no omnidirectional sound. Nonetheless, I decided to go with the speaker. and Boy am I disappointed, not only two weeks in and the middle subwoofer started to blow out making this clicky vibrating noise. Nothing I can do to stop it. It really disappoints me because I’ve come to know altec has having some of the most durable speakers in the market. Boy was I wrong I don’t know what happened over the course of five or so years, but the quality has gone down the drain. The speaker is incredibly loud has incredible bass the construction of the speaker is also of higher quality. I was hoping this speaker could at least last me a couple years, but I couldn’t even last more than one month. Word of caution it’s probably best not to use the speaker at full volume as ridiculous as it sounds. Or this might happen to you. Also a word of advice altec, a lot of people aren’t buying portable speakers for light shows and wireless chargers. Granted it is a cool selling point, but nobody who’s taking this thing on the go is leaving their phone sitting on top of it let alone staring directly into the speaker for the light show. People mainly buy your speakers for the durability and ruggedness as well as quality of your speakers. I would focus on focusing on that before considering flashy leds that don’t even work that well to begin with. it’s more of a strobe light then it is reacting to the music.
