Never Marry a Cowboy (Rogues in Texas Book 3)

Angstiest book in the trilogy!
Never Marry a Cowboy is the third book in Lorraine Heath’s Rogues in Texas series. I love the premise of this series. Three Englishmen’s fathers paid to have their “wayward sons” sent to Texas to make their own way. In classic LH fashion…we have angst, passion, trauma, and tragic pasts. In this book we have an Englishmen who has become a Texas Marshal and a marriage of convenience with a heroine dying of consumption. This book also picks up with some action and outlaws! This book is definitely the angstiest of the trilogy. I love a marriage of convenience and this one has a really interesting setup. Christian’s friend Daniel shows up asking Christian for a favor…he’d like to make his dying sister’s wish come true of becoming a bride and asks Christian to marry her.Christian first says no but once he meets Ashton, he feels a pull towards her and wants to make her wish come true. Christian “Kit” Montgomery grew up in England as the Earl of Ravenleigh’s second-born twin son (his father even took a flaming hot fire poker to his chin upon birth to ensure no one ever mistook him for his older twin, the heir apparent). If that wasn’t a rough enough time, Kit was also in love with his twin’s wife, who ended up dying before he was sent to Texas. This book definitely delivers on the feels and pulls on your emotions starting with the prologue. But cut to 1870, it’s been 5 years since he arrived in Texas and Kit has become Marshal of Fortune. I loved seeing Ashton’s growth in this book, she had always been frail growing up and treated very delicately, but Kit pushes her (in a good, but challenging way) and brings her so much joy. I loved seeing their trip to Galveston and really becoming friends and getting this time spent together but alone from others. Kit has a very close relationship with his twin brother and it was fun and interesting hearing about their strong bond, even an ocean apart. And getting to see a little side romance in this story.

She is dying of consumption and his love is her only wish
This story is very emotional and enticing, but I just could not bear so much death, illness, and heartbreak in one book. The heroine starts the story suffering from consumption, the reason why her brother, after reading her diary and finding out she was infatuated with the hero, arrange her marriage to him.The marriage is supposed to be in name only, with her returning home with her brother after the ceremony. This arrangement is specially cruel considering the hero's true love had died in his arms in similar conditions. They did not know, by the time, that consumption was a highly contagious disease and it was nerve-racking because not only she was going to die, but everyone around her was at great risk of catching the disease.Luckily no one was infected, and obviously, there is an HEA, but the subject was a little too dense for my taste. It is a good story in spite (or because) of that. According to the author notes, it was based on a true story of a female physician that recovered from the disease after moving to a dryer climate and started to walk long distances to see to her patients. This made the book more special.

Deep in the Heart
I have to agree with one of the other reviews that gave 4 stars because I did not care for Ashton. She has had a crush since she first saw Kit in Dallas at her brother's house for dinner before in Never Love a Cowboy. Fast forward she is in frail health not expected to live. In this story her brother asks Kit for a huge favor-marry Ashton to give her her dream of being a bride. The author did an excellent job of making the story believable. They have a beautiful wedding and Kit finds he is actually attracted to Ashton and even though she knows everything is temporary he is everything she could want. Then she finds out he helped Clarisse end her painful suffering from cancer. Clarisse was Kit beloved who was betrothed to his twin brother as the heir apparent of Ravenleigh. This has haunted him for years but Ashton immediately accuses him of murder. I could see her shock but she supposedly loves him and knows he carries a burden. Instead of seeing man he is, she turns against him. Only when he is almost killed (actually he is trying get himself killed) does she "forgive". Loved Christopher and Elizabeth's story and the start of Tom and Lauren relationship. Diamondgirl

Would have given it more stars!
First of all, when an author can make me literally fall in love with her character in the hero than that is always a big plus. This book made me long for someone like Kit Montgomery. He was just a remarkable hero especially in his treatment of the heroine and I appreciated how the story let the love between them unfold slowly and how we got to experience it's growth as well which was just beautifully done. I was adoring this book from the first chapter. I did hate near the last third of the book how the heroine took such issue with the secret Kit told her about especially with everything he had done for her and how much he loved her. It seemed a little out of character for her and it irritated me. But I tried to keep in mind how pure Ashton was and how sheltered she had been her whole life because of her illness so it may have been hard for her to deal with because of that. Kit never stopped loving her in spite of it and of course every book has to have some conflict to make it interesting and I knew in the end she would work through it and see that she was wrong about him and wrong to judge him so harshly. I also welcomed Grayson and Harry fron the two previous books...so glad to have them there. This was an amazing story and touched me in so many ways and it will go on my keeper shelf for sure. It is one of my very favorites now and I will treasure it. I simply adored it! Well done again Lorraine.

Readable romance
The story was good and I enjoyed it in parts but it was a bit too sentimental for me in parts.

Aber "Never love a Cowboy" und dann "Never marry a Cowboy". Tolle Bücher. Man kann sie auch alle eigenständig lesen.
