Ferplast Favola Hamster Cage Includes Free Water Bottle, Exercise Wheel, Food Dish & Hamster Hide-Out Large Hamster Cage Measures 23.6L x 14.4W x 11.8H-Inches

As a new Hamster owner trying to succeed at creating a comfortable habitat for my hamster, I’ll share what I’ve learned so far for those who might find it helpful.The Ferplast Favola Large Hamster Cage arrived looking just as advertised, cage was packaged well and arrived without issue. Pros: middle insert can be removed, it’s easy to clean, paper stays contained in the bottom portion of cage, comes with some accessories (wheel, water bottle, food dish, house) Cons: Door placement on top of cage can be hard to maneuver hand around inside, provided wheel is small (size 6.5) and provided water bottle didn’t work properly. Below I’ve listed the wheel and water bottle I bought to replace these.1. **Cage/habitat size is very important** the more space you can provide the better. Per the description, each cage is approx. 340 sq. inches of floor space. This is smaller than the recommended habitat size per my research for a hamster (Dwarf and Chinese Hamsters require a minimum of 600 sq. inches of floor space, Syrian Hamsters need a minimum of 900 sq. inches of floor space.) I bought 2 of these cages to start (half price of each cage at time of purchase, equaled 2 cages for the price of what 1 normally costs in other similar type cages). Combined, 2 cages provide approx. 680 sq. inches of floor space, thus meeting the minimum habitat requirement in sq. inch floor space size for a Dwarf or Chinese Hamster. For a Syrian Hamster, 3 of these cages combined would provide approx. 1,020 sq. inches of floor space.2. **Tubes** for connecting to cages/habitat – the Ferplast brand tubes (can purchase on Amazon) work great, they’re sturdy, can take apart for cleaning, I added a few “telescoping” tube pieces making my building/connecting easier.3. **Cart to hold Cages** COMPLETELY OPTIONAL, but I found it made my experience much easier for set up and ongoing cage maintenance. Per the description, each cage dimension is 23.6 L x 14.4 W x 11.8 H. I found in noting this size and researching some “3 Tier Kitchen, Baker’s Rack Microwave Oven Stand/Cart” fit the size needed to hold cages nicely. I also found at a popular Craft Store a Rolling Cart with 2 metal shelves, and drawers underneath that works perfectly for holding 2 cages. Prices vary, but I located both options priced each at around $85. There are many options out there for 2 or 3 tier shelf racks/carts, I personally like a rolling cart so I can move it for easier cleaning then lock wheels down once back in place.4. **Hamster Wheel** I replaced the included wheel with a Niteangel Super-Silent (can purchase on Amazon) a size Small (8.3) fit in the middle of the insert without issue. You can adjust the wheel up/down as needed. My hamster loves this wheel and it’s super quiet!5. **Water Bottle** I replaced the included water bottle with a bigger capacity one. The Lixit bottle (can purchase on Amazon). I did find that it does occasionally drip, so I placed the Niteangel Hamster Glass Water bowl (purchase on Amazon) under the water spout and it works great. My hamster doesn’t move the dish around due to the weight of it, and the dome in the middle I like because he doesn’t get wet. He sometimes drinks out of the dish where the water drips collect, other times he uses the spout.Overall, I’m satisfied and feel the value is great for the price I paid. My hamster loves the plastic house accessory that came with the cage. I would recommend getting this cage as long as it’s partnered to connect with another as you do need more space than this cage alone to meet the space requirement needs of your hamster.

I recently purchased this hamster cage for my little buddy, and I couldn’t be happier! The design is spacious yet secure, with plenty of room for my hamster to scamper around and explore. The multiple levels and tunnels keep him entertained for hours, and I love watching him climb and burrow. The materials feel sturdy and well-made, ensuring it’ll last a long time. Cleanup is a breeze thanks to the removable tray, and the tight bar spacing gives me peace of mind that he won’t squeeze out. It even came with thoughtful extras like a water bottle and food dish. This cage is a hamster’s dream home—and a pet owner’s dream come true! Highly recommend!

Update: I originally ordered the open box version of this that amazon offered and had a horrible experience which you can read about below. I would not recommend doing that with this cage. I received a free brand new replacement Because I called customer service and when they offered to send me a refurbished cage I said no, I want a new one because of my bad experience with the open box (which was supposed to be new anyway) and to my surprise they agreed and gave me a coupon for the difference Plus refunded me fully when I returned the damaged one. So I got the new cage for $15 off the price at the time. So now I’m happy with customer service, just not impressed with the open box experience.I’d highly recommend this cage for dwarf hamsters. The bars are very close together, there’s plenty of space for our hamster to run around, and no way of escape. The house and food bowl and wheel all seem sturdy and nice. The water bottle is very tiny and it leaks from the spout when he drinks and leaves a puddle. I also like the upstairs and downstairs design of this cage and I think it’s a safe height so he doesn’t die if he falls down the hole. He did that immediately but I guess he actually jumped over the side (There’s a hamster height lip around the hole) because he was scared when we first put him in, but the height isn’t much and he’s fine. He actually did it again so maybe he enjoyed it! I also really like the fact that the floor is not wire. It’s solid plastic. I haven’t cleaned it yet but everything comes apart and goes together easily.The only cons to this cage are that it is plastic. I don’t feel that this type of plastic will hold up over time. It’s very brittle stiff plastic. My suspicions were confirmed when I received the original open box cage which had obviously been either used or sitting in a warehouse baking in the heat because the plastic was cracked and shattered. It’s that kind of plastic that cracks easily. The new one I have now is in perfect condition and as long as it doesn’t sit in the sun I don’t see how it will get that way. But you need to be careful when taking it apart. It’s brittle. For the price, I think this kind of plastic is really aggravating. But I felt like this was the best design I could order in this price range for a dwarf hamster and a wheel included, and I think that’s still true even after all the mess I’ve gone through.—ORIGINAL REVIEW—I ordered this a week ago and it finally arrived today. First of all, I don’t know why amazon suddenly takes a week to arrive when I have prime, but anyway, my product arrived damaged.As a note, I purchased the “open box” version of this product to try to save $10. I find all hamster cages insanely over priced for what you get so that was my reasoning. The description of an open box item was simply that: it was opened and returned but there should be nothing wrong with it. I don’t care about packaging as long as my item is new and Not damaged.The box is fine so it wasn’t the delivery. The plastic corner and also along the lip of the plastic bottom where it meets the wire top of the cage is also shattered. In all honesty it looks like someone used this cage and all it’s parts for a month or six months and then returned it. Either that or it’s been sitting in a warehouse somewhere baking in the heat and it damaged the plastic. It’s cracked cheap looking plastic. Even the hamster wheel has marks on it where the plastic looks like it’s been rubbing against something. There’s scratches all over it.So now my only option is to return this and get my money back on my amazon account, not back to my card it looks like. That’s annoying. Also I don’t want to return it. I want a replacement. It looks like a good cage design which is why I bought it. I’m in desperate need of this cage, my hamster is camping out in a rigged fish tank and waiting a week was already inconvenient. Thanks Prime, for nothing. My other option is to call the manufacturer. It’s Sunday so I’ll have to wait till tomorrow, but I don’t even feel like dealing with that aggravation. This is why I pay for prime, so I can have fast shipping and easy returns. I guess buying the open box wasn’t worth it. As you can see in my photo whoever looked this over before shipping (if they even did!) left the opened bags for screws in the accessory bag, basically garbage. It just shows how little they cared about anything.Another note: the water bottle is extremely tiny. I heard this cage was great for dwarf hamsters which is why I got it, so maybe this is a normal size? Not sure but thought I’d mention it.
