Bad battery, bad hard drive.
I bought this laptop to replace an older one, and for most of the first year I owned it, things were great. The good: this is a lightweight, sleek computer. It really looks great. I wanted a computer that could handle and display lots of photos, browse the web quickly, etc. I'm not a huge gamer and I have a work computer, so I didn't expect a whole lot from this machine. What I did expect was for it to run smoothly for as long as my old Dell laptop did (and that lasted me almost ten years). Which brings me to...The bad: the battery in this laptop had to be replaced less than a year after I purchased it. The design of the laptop is such that the battery is not removable unless you send it to a technician (or violate your warranty). Fortunately for me, the battery WAS covered under warranty, so I was able to get that fixed with limited headaches, ALTHOUGH when it was sent back, it was sent to the wrong address and I am just very fortunate my neighbor was both honest and able to figure out where I lived or I might never have seen it again.Roughly six months ago, so just at the one-year mark of ownership, the computer started slowing down. I have literally only used it for playing DVDs for my kids, browsing the internet, and storing photos, so there is really no reason for the slow down. Recently it won't even start - it brings up a screen that says "Lenovo," but that's it. The hard drive is bad, says the technician who has looked at it. Not even two years old and I've already got to replace the hard drive. In addition, Lenovo Customer Support was incredibly difficult to navigate. It seems that once your warranty expires, they REALLY don't want to talk to you. After inputting my serial number, I was basically told, via the website, "Well, your warranty is expired, so your options are to find a service center or consult the forums." There were no options to talk to a live human. When I finally found a phone number for support, I couldn't get past the automated messages to a real person. I finally signed out of my Lenovo account and accessed support without using my serial number and finally reached an option to chat with a support representative, but was still offered no help. I understand that a warranty is something I agree to when I make the purchase, but it feels like I bought a lemon.I did LOTS of research when purchasing this computer, so it is disappointing to have it turn out this way.

Lenovo Ideapad 300 Review
Exactly what I wanted and at the right price. Completely up and running in 45 minutes plus another 20 minutes to purchase, download, and install MS Office. 8x memory, 2x storage, and a better + cooler processor for half the price of my last laptop purchased in 2010. Windows 10 is fine. Negatives are touchpad and function key ergonomics, a display driver that doesn't like auto-run ads (glitches not crashes), and the constant push for junky software and services that aren't needed.
