Deist's Don't Pray, But TRUE Christians Do!!
In my own learning experience, I have found that labels are sticky and can be tricky things, because words can and do often change meaning over time. For example, when we hear the word "christian" or "Christianity" used to label or to describe people groups in our study of history (ie the founding fathers) we often automatically apply our own modern day, watered down, experiential definition of the word, to what it meant long ago. I believe this is a dangerous and often misleading way of thinking, perceiving, and learning from the past.In trying to look at history with this in mind, making a conscious effort to remove the label, and allow their own words, and actions to speak for themselves, I have found that some of the founding fathers of America were more dedicated to the Scriptures, and Messiah, and more focused on keeping the Fathers eternal commandments, than some of the early church fathers who compromised and redefined many founding doctrines, and surely more dedicated than the majority of those who stand in the pulpit's of America's modern day Christianity!Just listen to some of the prayers of George Washington!!"Oh Eternal and everlasting God, I presume to present myself this morning before thy Divine majesty, beseeching thee to accept of my humble and hearty thanks, that it hath pleased thy great goodness to keep and preserve me the night past from all the dangers poor mortals are subject to, and has given me sweet and pleasant sleep, whereby I find my body refreshed and comforted for performing the duties of this day, in which I beseech thee to defend me from all perils of body and soul.Direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the lamb, and purge my heart by thy Holy Spirit, from the dross of my natural corruption, that I may with more freedom of mind and liberty of will serve thee, the ever lasting God, in righteousness and holiness this day, and all the days of my life.Increase my faith in the sweet promises of the Gospel. Give me repentance from dead works. Pardon my wanderings, & direct my thoughts unto thyself, the God of my salvation. Teach me how to live in thy fear, labor in thy service, and ever to run in the WAYS OF THY COMMANDMENTS. Make me always watchful over my heart, that neither the terrors of conscience, the loathing of holy duties, the love of sin, nor an unwillingness to depart this life, may cast me into a spiritual slumber. But daily frame me more and more into the likeness of thy son JESUS CHRIST (Yeshua Messiah), that living in thy fear, and dying in thy favor, I may in thy appointed time attain the resurrection of the just unto eternal life. Bless my family, friends & kindred unite us all in praising & glorifying thee in all our works begun, continued, and ended, when we shall come to make our last account before thee blessed Saviour, who hath taught us thus to pray, our Father."Washington's Prayer for the United States of America appears on a plaque in St. Paul 's chapel in New York City as well as at Pohick Church , Fairfax County , Virginia , where Washington was a vestryman from 1762 to 1784:Almighty God,We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy Holy protection; and Thou wilt incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow Citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the Field. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the Characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed Religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD. Amen.--George Washington (He DECLARED JESUS CHRIST AS HIS LORD!)And now, Almighty Father,If it is Thy holy will that we shall obtain a place and name among the nations of the earth, grant that we may be enabled to show our gratitude for Thy goodness by our endeavors to fear and obey Thee. Bless us with thy wisdom in our counsels, success in battle, and let our victories be tempered with humanity. Endow, also, our enemies with enlightened minds, that they become sensible of their injustice, and willing to restore our liberty and peace. Grant the petition of Thy servant, for THE SAKE OF whom Thou hast called THY BELOVED SON (Jesus Christ/Yeshua Messiah); nevertheless, not my will, but Thine be done.--George WashingtonSome of these men understood, accepted, and upheld the scriptures in their purest simplicity through Messiahs examples and teachings! Their level of dedication to the bible as the source of true liberty was astounding.I personally find the study of History so fascinating because if you look very carefully, you can often find that through time, there has always been a faithful remnant in each generation on earth, that has kept the covenant, upheld the commandments of God, and followed Messiah in walking in the Way, Truth, and Life of the instructions of His Father. Were they perfect? No. They were fallible, but humble and sincere.

Required reading for my 3rd grader's school, but not very impressed.
I am surprised at the low-quality of the printing of this book. Several pages (3 so far, and I think I am on chapter three) are only printed on the bottom half of the page, and a separate sheet of paper was glued on top to make the text complete. The subject matter is interesting, but it is not very well-written. I have a college education and have had to go back and read paragraphs several times because the author jumps around, uses a pronoun with no clear subject, etc. I would not recommend this book.

George Washington: Man of Prayer and Courage
This is an excellent, interesting, easy to read biography. Though it is written primarily for the young reader, it is fascinating to a history buff of any age. The author clearly did her research and did an excellent job of representing the spiritual life of George Washington.

Not Our Favorite in this Series
George Washington is not our favorite book in this series. It has a lot of great historical information, but it is poorly written. The sentences are choppy, making it very difficult to read out loud and the content is all over the place with noticeable lack of organization. It is a difficult book to follow.
