Buffalo LinkStation 420 8 TB 2-Drive NAS for Home/Home Office (LS420D0802)

The price was so cheap that I wondered if it had the drives in it. YES, the two 4 TB drives were installed. It is really plug and play. My tech configured it, but there's no reason why I couldn't have done it. Then I forgot my password, and called tech support. That was a very nice experience. The tech knew what he was talking about. He got me into the system to reset the password. No problem.But I was confused that it was taking the NAS so long to configure itself. I wanted to use it right away, and the yellow light was flashing telling me that it wasn't ready. Well, it was ready, and it backed up my system just fine. But the light flashed yellow for the better part of two days. Tech support told me that was normal while it was setting up. I don't know why it takes so long to set up, but it's been working great since I plugged it in, and after nearly two full days, the yellow flashing light stopped, and it's been cooking along just great ever since. No complaints, just a high quality back up NAS for my office computer system.

I have two of these now. Both work great. I live off grid and drop power all the time... these guys never miss a beat. Start back up after power is reset. Never loses data or acts weird. It does however lose time when power drops. I launch the Buffalo software... it finds both drives and asks to reset he clocks... I say yes and done.This is NOT an issue if you power them off properly with their on off buttons.

It gets a four star because I have not been able to get SMTP to work. I copied the exact settings from the older unit I have and no dice. Other than that the unit has been operating as advertised.

Crashed after a week; successfully repaired and now running better than before.

Great set up, easy to mount. Still need to work out a few speed issues, but that could be a connection issue.

HOLY COW. I loaded this bad boy up with 3T worth of material and it's performing perfectly. I could not be happier. Easy to maintain and perfect for a person with a basic networking knowledge.

I love these NAS drives. I have several of them. They work great easy to setup, no worries.
