Great German CD
Yes, it is extremely helpful to understand German when listening to this CD. Although the music itself is enough for someone to fall in love with this CD one would miss out on the true meaning of the songs. One of the previous reviews of this CD calls all but one of the songs "spacefillers" which must be because of lack of understanding the German language, although I believe that because of that, the band infiltrated bits of English into most of their songs. But that, of course, only goes so far.One song called "Traurige Lieder" tells about growing up knowing you're different and other people picking on you for it. It also talks about your parents arguing and fighting and you witnessing it as a small child. The band sings about every day things and the experiences they've had and I believe that's why a lot of people, no matter where they're from, can identify with the songs. And since Xavier Naidoo is a very religious person, he also infitrates that into the band's songs and his own solo projects.Growing up in Germany in the 70's and 80's, the young people always looked for songs to identify with. Most imported music was sung in English and good German music was hard to find, unless you were a senior citizen and liked Bavarian Oktoberfest-Music. Then, in the 80's, there was a flood of German music hitting the charts which myself and most other teenagers loved. But the German music you hear nowadays from great bands like Soehne Mannheims is completely different and I think it would be a success outside of Germany if only they were to sing in English - as Nena, Spliff and so many other bands did, only to be called one-hit wonders. The world simply isn't ready for German songs conquering the charts, but that's ok. They've conquered my CD player a long time ago.

Good voices. So-so songs.
I really only bought this album to get a copy of the song "Und wenn ein lied". The other songs aren't the quality of this song. I think most would agree that they aren't anything that would top billboard charts. They seem like 'filler' sings, sung to fill up an album.

Xavier Naidoo's Dark Night of the Soul
If there's any justice in the world, this should prove to be a breaktrough album for Xavier Naidoo, for it is Naidoo, an Afro-German musician and songwriter, who is the creative force behind "Noiz" (Zion spelled backwards), a work that, while it is extremely personal, contains enough immediatley ingratiating music to be universal in its appeal. I remember being haunted by Naidoo's "Wo willst du hin?," which was a major hit on European MTV a few years back, and wondering what it might take for him to reach an audience in America. "Noiz" may just be the answer. Recently, I had occasion to be in Berlin, and I was gratified to hear his unmistakable, sweet yet passionate voice on MTV once again, only this time in the service of a group called Soehne Mannheims (Sons of Mannheim). The song: "Und wenn ein Lied." I rushed out to buy the CD. The lyrics on "Noiz" are credited to Naidoo, but he co-writes most of the music, often with Michael Herberger. One reason the album might get some play this side of the Atlantic is that the "rap" portions of the lyrics (not to mention the anthemic "Can You Feel It?) are sung in English, as on "Babylon System." Also, Naidoo is obviously exploring his dark night of the soul on "Noiz," which deals primarily with spriritual matters. Take for example this lyric (in English) from "Koenig der Koenige" (King of Kings): Calling the king / Scream his name out loud. / Calling my lord / I hope he hears me out." Christian music is a big niche market in America, and this may be the best of its type I've heard. Add to it Naidoo's beautiful voice (he's as smooth as Sam Cooke on songs like "Im interesse unserer Gemeinschaft") and a couple of sure crowd-pleasers like "Ich geh mit dir" and "Und wenn ein Lied," with their eminently hummable hooks, and Naidoo may just have a hit on his hands. If only American audiences are canny enough to catch on.

Awesome CD
I live in Germany and heard two songs from Noiz on the radio. I had to go out and buy the CD. I recommend this CD to anyone. The music is great. I am learning German so I don't know the lyrics well, but you don't need to in order to enjoy this CD. I feel that this is a CD that could have all of the tracks on airplay. I am so tired of buying CD's that have only a few good songs (when will the artist learn that we are smarter than they give us credit for?). This one is well worth it! I stopped buying CD's a few years ago. This one was worth the money.

"Wonderful Voice"
People, stop being so stuck on a person's race. Xavier Naidoo is born and raised in Germany...therefor he is GERMAN!! Yes, we too come in many colors and yes, some of us are racially mixed! You'd think people would look past that and just see a person for who they really are.

Wow
I live in Germany, and even though I have no clue what the words mean, I still love that one song, Und Wenn Ein Lied, and everytime I hear it, the radio goes on fullblast. I am not sure about the rest of the album, but I am impressed with the single. I suggest it to anyone, b/c I am about to purchase it myself right now.

NOIZ/ZION
like the first CD of Soehne Mannheims "ZION" this one is a must have! I love them both. I do agree that you do not need to understand the lyrics, but if you do all the better, because they are smart.Xavier also did a song with Edo Zanki "Gib mir musik" (feat. Sasha).
