The Book Of Boro: Techniques and patterns inspired by traditional Japanese textiles

Oh I love this book. I always check Amazon reviews and lots of positive reviews here and so I'll gladly add one more. I've read quite a bit on Boro and have one or two books ......most boro books are out of my price range. This paperback is under $20.00. The author has filled it with lots of historical information, color pictures of vintage boro pieces, inightful and interesting comments on varied making, use and wearing of vintage boro clothing from it's original period far more than I have read before. Lists necessary info on threads, needles, fabrics old and new and then a chapter with many projects that are actually useful, tastefully made and photographed....and with each project there is an associated 'mini' project to make as well before tackling the larger project. All instructions are clear, consise, perfect if a beginner or advanced in sewing. It's really a marvelous collection of Boro history, use, and so much inspiration to bring this beautiful tradition into our homes today. Job well done by the author. Highly, highly recomended.

It's a beautiful book with many color photos illustrating the history and modern use of Boro, aka, patching and extending the useful life of clothes and materials. She includes an intro to sashiko stitching with tools and some stitches, just enough to get you started. Where this book shines is the projects, including a traditional coat! All projects are useful and beautiful. The main project includes an accompaning small project to learn the technique b4 commiting time and materials to the larger project. I haven't had a chance to make anything yet, but the last homely house on you tubechronicles making the coat from this book. If this peaks your interest, get the book. You won't be disappointed.

Love this book!

Susan Briscoe has written an excellent book about boro with many fine examples of techniques and illustrated sewing stitches. Ms. Briscoe explains how to use the book which is very important. There are numerous examples of projects that you can do to improve your skills and knowledge. The only complaint that I have is the font size and type. While the book is readable, the publishers should have gone with a larger font and a darker type. There is plenty of white space to increase the font size. It is bewildering why they choose to do this. Nevertheless, the book is a welcome addition for your craft library.

O sentido desta técnica usada pelos japoneses encaixa perfeitamente com a moda circular atual. Usei linhas de rayon porque sao mais brilhantes e o efeito final ficou lindo, valeu !
