Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is an Indian herb used in Ajurveda, and a very potent one with wide ranging effects. Indian supplements carry a reputation for potential of being contaminated or adulterated because of lack of regulation so it is important to get it from a company you can trust, like Jarrow.. I have never had a problem with one of their products. and the strict independent supplement testing and review organization Consumer Lab has never found a problem with one of their products and always rates them highly. This formula is a patented extract called KSM66 and it is standardized to have an especially high level of the active compounds of Ashwagandha, withholides. This means any patented extract can be relied upon for especially high quality assurance and listed amount and purity of herbal ingredients every time. One note, as another reviewer pointed out, that Jarrow previously used a different patented extract called Sensoril, it seems like until about two years ago, but now uses the KSM66 extract. Different extracts have different experiences sometimes even for the same person, and the Sensoril has a reputation for calming, while the KSM66 has a reputation for being more invigorating. Keep that in mind reading mine and other recent reviews compared to anything from 2015 or before.This Ashwagandha supplement I am using for adrenal support as an adaptagen, which is an herb that like the more famous ginseng in that it supposed to support you during times of stress whether you need balancing out in either direction. This is another reason different people experience different effects from the same herb and even from the same extract - it helps you in the direction you need it to. It balances out your cortisol in response to stress, giving you a quiet calm while giving you more energy and strength when you need it.Ginseng doesn't work for me but this herb does. I find this Ashwagandha KSM66 extract to be stimulating without the "revved up" feeling of caffeine. I get the experience of inner strength, energy, stamina, focus, and concentration, which lasts all through out the day. This patented extract is very potent - I started out taking one capsule three times a day and had to cut back because it was too much. I backed off to two times a day, and then discovered that I do best taking one to two capsules in the morning depending on how I feel that day, and then it last well into the afternoon and evening for as long as I need it. Contrary to what others have said, it does not help me sleep it keeps me awake, so that's why I switched to the morning only dosing. Also, two capsules at once is stronger than one capsule twice daily and lasts longer through out the day. I highly recommend this Ashwagandha extract as an adaptogen for whatever your needs may be - you basically have to try it and see if it makes a valuable contribution to your life and your burden of stress and exhaustion. Just remember this is a potent extract, and use accordingly. I plan to keep ordering and using this high quality Jarrow product for the forseeable future.

Herbal Supplements have different effects on different individuals. Ashwagandha is considered an Adaptogen. If you need to be calm it acts in that way, need sleep it may cause sleepiness. For me though it acts as a stimulant.I've waited 3 weeks to write this review to see if I develope a tolerance and if it would stop working. The answer is no.For me Ashwagandha has had an enervating effect. I take it in the morning and find myself much more energetic, my mood is elevated, I'm not tired and my productivity at work has increased. I find that I'm more focused and my thought processes are dead on. I also find it makes me a little more aggressive. Possibly it's the extra energy.Consult with your Dr if you suffer from Depression, Bi Polar Depression or Narcolepsy, about adding Ashwaganda to the mix. And it's your choice to accept or ignore the Dr's advise. Traditional Doctors don't understand Botanical Supplements.Web Md has a list of interactions with different medicines. I'd like to add that I have not found Ashwagandha to be sedating at all. In fact the one time that I took it in the evening I didn't sleep very well that night.It may upset some individuals stomachs especially if taken on and empty stomach and if this symptom materializes,try taking with food.I have tried Ginkgo, Rhodiola, Huperzine A. Ginkgo worked for a little while and than I developed a tolerance. I don't believe I ever had as positive an effect from Ginkgo as from Ashwaganda. Rhodiola did give energy but I found it didn't help concentration. Huperzine A I had a very bad reaction to and unbalanced my system. Remember that everyone has different metabolism and reactions, so you might try 1 or all of these 3 and your result would differ from mine.I'm in the supplement industry and I sell the raw materials including Ashwagandha wholesale. One of the dirty secrets of the supplement industry is that Indian Supplements are considered at risk for high level of Heavy Metals, Pesticides and unfriendly solvent residues. With my inside knowledge, I'm very hesitant to take Indian Supplements. I chose Jarrows because they are a reputable company following GMP Practices and using a branded form of Ashwagandha called Sensoril.I do not have personal knowledge that Sensoril is safe but I feel that there is a greater probability that it is. Especially coming from a reputable company like Jarrows. Referencing Indian Supplements it's very important to purchase name brand supplements that we hope have been tested for these negatives.In summation, For me Ashwaganda has been a strong stimulant, both promoting wakefulness while enhancing mental thought processes.
