Buy this cookbook!!
I never have the motivation to write reviews! However, I decided to make an exception! This cookbook is amazing! I love it so far! I have made three recipes from it and each one has come out delicious. Which are: mushroom gravy, spaghetti, and the date bread. Each one was yummy in my tummy!!Update (June 6, 2017):I decided to come back to this review and tell you how more of the recipes came out in this book. Let's just say I have only had a few minor problems with two recipes but they were easy to fix. I've noticed some reviews saying a lot of their recipes did not come out right, but I've made quite a few from this cookbook and I rarely had a problem. There were probably only two that needed minor adjustments. Those were the Double Trouble Brownies and the Crabby Heart Cakes which I listed below on how to fix the minor problems. Other than that all the recipes that I made came out delicious. These are the following recipes I have tried so far and LOVE:Coconut Mushroom Gravy-My dad loved this gravy and he hates coconut. We couldn't even taste the coconut in it.Classic Pancakes-I loved this recipe so much, it's now a pancake staple recipe.Sweet Banana Porridge-This recipe was different, but I did like it. The texture wasn't my favorite but the flavor was delicious.Blueberry Oatmeal Squares-This was my first gluten free recipe that I made and I have to say its one of my favorites.Creamy Basil Tomato Spaghetti with Kale-This is my father's absolute favorite and he's not a vegan. Also, made this for friends and they were asking for thirds! This is my spaghetti staple recipe.Crabby Heart Cakes-This one was a big hit with my family and they are not vegan. I would recommend straining the excess liquid from the veggies first before adding the dry ingredients. May need to add more flour if the mixture is too wet. Also, recommend pulsing the veggies in a food processor (but be careful not to pulse too long because then it will turn into mush). These tips helped the patties stayed together better.Royce Rolls-I'm not a huge fan of bread rolls but with these, I couldn't get enough of them. Also, made these for friends who are not vegan and they were asking for more.American Apple Pie-This one is a family favorite! I have made this recipe sooo many times that I lost count. You definitely need to make this one!Grandma Mattern's Date Nut Bread-I have met a few people who do not like dates but when I made them this recipe they could not get enough of it.Double Trouble Brownies-I got a little confused with the instructions because she forgot to tell you what to do with the chocolate chips but I figured out all you need to do is just fold them in and it worked. These came out super fudgy!Whiskey Lady Cupcakes-Made these for my brothers birthday and he loved them. Actually, my entire family loved them!

Love It!!!
Great book for a "beginner" vegan such as myself. I found Chef Mary on Instagram and just scrolling through her feed made my mouth water so I decided to buy her cookbook. I wasn't even vegan, let alone thinking about converting to veganism. I just wanted to make tasty dishes :)After getting the book, I immersed myself in making at least 2-3 meals a week. She lays out all of the ingredients needed for your pantry and all of the recipes are super easy to make and don't require years of culinary skills. I am happy to say that I am 2 months vegan because of this cookbook alone. Chef Mary has opened up a new world for me and I am feeling better than I ever have. I can't wait for her to publish another cookbook!Favorite Receipes: California Tofu Benedict, Fat Mint Chip Cookies, Balsamic Portobello "Chop", Dreamy Brussels Sprouts and Mushroom Chia Risotto

Still pleased with this purchase overall
I was so excited to receive this book on the day it came out. Pros: She has included a variety of recipes in the book and the photos are outstanding. Some very original recipes that I have not seen in other vegan cookbooks. Cons: there are many recipes that call for vegan mayonnaise or pre-packaged tempeh in the ingredient list, which I am Not a fan of. Still pleased with this purchase overall.

Inspiring dishes but needs serious editing
I was really excited to get this book! I have been following the author's instagram, and her photos are amazing. The photos in the book are--as anticipated--beautiful; however, there are clear editorial issues that make this book a bummer to work with. As it stands now, I would only recommend this book for inspiration and for people who feel confident with vegan cooking and baking (and who like problem solving with their meal prep). Please do NOT get this book if you are new to veganism because your recipes will probably fail and it's not your fault and it's not the fault of plant-based cooking. There are glaring errors that need to be edited. Some friends and I made some recipes and here are some examples of issues we came across:- double trouble brownies: the recipe is lacking liquid (1/4 cup almond milk total) AND sweetener (1/4 cup maple syrup total) and it doesn't tell you what to do with the chocolate chips. When I did what the recipe said, I had a dry heap of ingredients. The chocolate chips were easy to problem solve, but I scoured the internet to troubleshoot the rest. I was able to find another brownie recipe of hers (cinnamon brownies) and tried to use similar proportions (which added a full cup of water and 1.5 cups of sugar), but they still didn't turn out well. This was an extra letdown because I'm always searching for the perfect vegan brownie recipe and the photos looked perfect.- crabby heart cakes: as others mentioned, this recipe does not work if you follow the instructions. There is no binder. I added a flax egg and combined the flour with the crabby mixture to get this to work. Also the thing with the sautéing the onions but the recipe not saying what to do with them (easy to figure out but this is a theme). The recipe itself is a great idea, but this needs some editing and testing. It's disappointing because this recipe is probably the standout recipe in the book so you'd think there would be editing/testing for this one.The stuffed cauliflower shells are a great idea, but the recipe doesn't provide good instructions for cooking the cauliflower and the filling was bland. Similarly, we really liked the ranch dressing (for the buffalo cauliflower kale salad), but needed to double the spices.Recipes that did work well were the sweet sensation salad and the buffalo cauliflower kale salad. And the macaroni salad. Maybe just make the salads!
