WHAT A WONDERFUL LEATHER STITCHER!!
Leatherwork stitching dream come true! Forget old reviews you see about this product. The distributor for this machine produces a quality item. Not to greasy or much cleanup needed. It worked right out the box when threaded properly. Despite what others say about the stand it supports thestitcher, just use a lower chair or stool. You've got to remember that in 90 % of third world countries where this is used, workers sit on the ground to uncomfortably use it.Fast same day delivery from Amazon, packaging was great, no damage to itemInstructions w/item. View YouTube videos on "Chinese Leather Stitcher". Youtuber Mainely Acres is the "go to" info resource on this item. He tells you every detail on how to set-up and operate this wonderful time-saver

A Lot Better Looking Than I Expected!
I've read a lot of horror stories about these machines, and also a lot of very positive ones. In summary, it appeared that the negatives were that the things needed a lot of cleaning, lubricating, some cleaning up of rough spots and edges, and a good bit of tweaking to work. The positives were that, once all of the above things were done and the machine was set up correctly, they work rather nicely--especially for the money.I was prepared for the worst, especially since the one that I ordered was the cheapest one for sale. Still, one seller said that they were all essentially made the same way (maybe the same place?) so I figured it wouldn't matter much.I was expecting the packaging to be disintegrated like some that I've seen in videos. Mine was in good shape, overall. I was prepared for missing parts (and hoping not). Mine not only came with everything listed, it also had the wire used to pull thread down to the needle and presser foot. I was expecting it to be really rough and pitted, but even though it's not Mercedes quality by a long shot, it's actually not all that bad. Even the paint on mine was applied in a reasonably heavy coat and covered the parts intended. As for being soaked in dried grease, etc., as described by some other buyers, mine has a thin coat of something like cosmoline on all the parts, but that protects it from rust while in storage and shipping. I've removed far heavier coats from other machinery, and this should be relatively simple.Even as it came out of the box the mechanisms function surprisingly well. I'm guessing that a little bit of cleaning and lubrication will make it even better.I want to build a table-top stand for it, and will wait to try it out after that's done and I've cleaned it up a bit, but I'm not anticipating any serious issues. I've watched a WHOLE LOT of videos on the care and feeding of these machines, and suspect that people who have given them low ratings either had unreasonable expectations for something at this price point, or they didn't do enough research on setting them up and using them.

It works, but no quality control
This machine does work. The instructions are worthless. You have to watch a YouTube video to figure out how to set it up and thread it. This particular model does not come with the threading tool or upper tensioner. The spools of thread it comes with are completely worthless (couldn't find the end). Mine was missing the nut for holding on the hand crank. The stand does work, but you have to assemble it in a cockeyed position so the machine doesn't tip over. The machine was packed in a styrofoam frame that was completely destroyed, most likely during the actual packing process as the outer box was undamaged.

Machine works flawlessly except...
bobbin pick-up either has a serious malfunction every needle drop or the design is flawed. Only takes about 200 attempts to get a bobbin thread pick-up. Once you finally retrieve the bobbin thread, the needle thread gets jammed in the bobbin housing every stitch orrrrrr you never get another bottom stitch pick-up and are left with only top stitch threaded into your ruined piece of leather. If this item or any cobbler stitcher of similar design is available via prime, it is most likely due to the item being returned from a design flaw...wait the 4 months for a Chinese shipment in attempt to receive a machine with newly discoverable flaws.

Take pictures of how it is threaded.
I had a hard time getting to work correctly. I spent several days. I watched you tube to figure it out.

Not for the faint of heart.
This is a great value. It comes pretty rough. It will require a lot of tweaking and refining to work great. The walking foot is so rough it cuts into the leather. I’ve filed it down quite a bit and it’s much better. I’m going to plasti-dip it to make it perfect. I’ve polished the shuttle and needle slot to remove burrs and bought better thread. The thread that comes wit it is junk. I mounted it on an old cutting board on top of a 4x4 and now it works like a champ! There’s a reason they are so cheap but there’s also a reason there are so many people that love them. Facebook has a good group with tips and tricks to help you get up and running. YouTube has tons of videos on it as well.Don’t expect it to knock your socks off out of the box. With patience you can get great results.A couple of negatives: the stand is garbage. The bobbin is quite small so it won’t hold very much heavier thread. Lastly back stitching is only possible by rotating the workpiece or rotating the walking foot so it’s not super easy to get into the same holes in your leather. All in all I’m happy with this purchase. Do yourself a favor and order some decent #69 bonded nylon or polyester thread to go wit it.Without slight modifications this is the largest thread you want to use. Get it running well with that and decide if you want to try a little larger thread.
