I purchased three different detectors all around the same price range for an Xmas gift so I could test them all. This was the only one I kept as it seemed to do a pretty good job at my test which was three coins under about 2.5” of dirt. It’s lightweight, but does seem a little flimsy, so I’m not sure how long it will survive my 6 year old’s exploring.

God bless!!!!As an adult, when it comes to metal detectors and other technology, color is usually not a big deal for me unless I am buying it for a special needs kiddo on the autism spectrum who has sensory processing disorder.Given that this is a child's metal detector the listing really ought to mention whether the colors are yellow, blue, or random, etc. At the time I purchased this there was no mention anywhere on the listing of any color deviation from the blue metal detector that is pictured. What I received was in the exact same branded box with the same model number on the box as the last one that I got last year. The one I receive last year was blue. This one is yellow. This was meant to be a gift for a child with special needs. Yellow just will not do. So I am returning this one for inaccurate website description and making the suggestion for Amazon or the seller to fix their website listing.

I wanted to check it out before I gave it to my grandson. For starters I tried a penny on the floor, not even covered with anything. Not detected. 2 quarters were detected only if I swept slowly multiple times an inch above their surface. Didn't work at all when I covered the quarters with 1" of soil.Worked okay on an altoid box covered in 1" but this detector isn't going to be much fun for my 7 year old grandson.Returning it for a refund. Other reviews said coins were detected in 4 " of soil. Maybe this one's a lemon.
