Name brand quality!
My 5 year old son was gifted a name brand (National Geographic) dinosaur egg this past Christmas and he loved it so has been begging for another. I found this just in time for his easter basket. The box was a tiny banged up but he didn’t notice at all. It took a few hours to collect all of the dinosaurs (more than I thought came out of this thing!). He did have to use some “real hammers” to get the force he wanted. I’m sure the wooden mallet provided would be fine if you have enough patience. But with kids he just wanted to get to work. Overall I think this is a perfect item for kids! I have 5 kids under the age of 11 and they all wanted in on the action. It is a bit messy, just like the National Geographic one, we put down a tarp in the basement, and when the weather was nice he went to town digging them out in the driveway!

great for kids who love to dig!
This was a birthday gift for a 9 year old. She loved it. It was not hard for her, and she shared with her siblings, but she loved this gift. She loves digging, and brushing and hammering away at the dirt to find the polished rocks. She thinks of it as a kind of hunt. The rocks are decent sizes, not too big, but not tiny like some of these that we have had in the past. The rocks are pretty and good quality (meaning not colored glass). This is a fun set for a kid that likes to dig!It does make a small mess, but it is mostly just a dusty mess, so have a rag you don't mind wiping up dirt with handy!

Fun Activity
I got three different gem excavating kits for my granddaughters (ages 10-14) as an activity to do when they came to visit. We bought this one, the Dan&Darci Gemstone Dig Kit and the GobiDex Gemstone Dig Kit. We put this one in second place. It’s a solidly fun kit. We found all 16 gemstones and they were decent size. None of the kits came with tools that could do the job on their own. We had to use spray bottles and either a screwdriver tapped with a hammer or a scraper tapped with a mallet to get through the sandstone. The girls loved it, though, and it kept them occupied for a solid hour. The Dan& Darci kit scored higher fits because the quality of the stones were better.

Great for kids !
I bought this last Christmas for a buddies kid and he said he had an absolute blast. I won’t lie when it arrived. It was much bigger than I was expecting, which is awesome.! It’s definitely a unique toy for any kid and if they’re into dinosaurs, this will be a smashing hit. Fair warning do this outside…it can get messy.

Fun activity wet or dry.
I got this dinosaur dig discovery kit to enhance our learning and make learning more fun. I am homeschooling my kids age 5 and 2. Anyway I got this as a fun activity we can do after we complete a days work of school. My kids love dinosaurs. This set is great! Dry digging. It's a little bit harder for my kids to get them open. Try it with water and it's easier also they like playing with the water and spent longer playing with the eggs even after getting the dinosaurs out. Very fun kit. I highly recommend this! Excellent quality!

Great source of entertainment and learning!
When I buy these for daycare it’s a great activity that can span into solid afternoon fun. Starting with a scavenger hunt (clues or for younger age groups, location pictures are a great idea), a brief overview of each dinosaur, the actual dig which takes time and determination for the child to get to the plastic Dino inside finishing up with handing out trading cards to the ones they receive is a great bonus addition at the end. Kid’s learn a lot and are engaged the whole time and for the money you cannot beat it. You can get multiple scavenger hunts out of each box or set up for a massive one. Great go to activity to pass time.

Meh
I don't know what they used to color the egg but it stained my son and me's hands and the tools weren't very sturdy and broke while we were trying to get the dinos out. Definitely wouldn't buy again. 3 stars because my son had a lot of fun.
