This mat does have an odor to it, but it isn't as bad as it was as it was when I first opened the package a month ago. After the first couple of days, I did mix some lavender essential oil and some rubbing alcohol/water mix in a spray bottle and sprayed the mat liberally, and let it sit for a bit, then I ironed the top side. I repeated it for the back side as well.The smell now is rather neutral, but I repeat the steps if I detect the original smell.Whatever it is doesn't affect the smell of the item I'm ironing.

I love this mat I’m going to get rid of my old ironing board. I used to drag that out, set it up and hope it wouldn’t fall over. Where has this mat been my whole life.It didn’t heat up. It’s easy to clean (loose thread).Great size
