Lovely and Practical at the same time
I was overjoyed to receive my donabe right on time and in perfect condition. And that was juat the beginning. We have a gas range, this would not be appropriate for stove top induction ranges as it is all beautiful clay. The first thing I made was sake rice. While I love our rice cooker and instant pot, the flavor and texture of the rice cooked in this donabe was unique and exceptional. Glossy and sweet, it was delicious.Next I made a vegan Japanese curry (from scratch, my first try!) and it turned out perfectly. Slowly cooking the golden curry in this clay donabe made a rich and spicy meal - maybe a bit too spicy for some family members but I can't blame that on the cooking pot!Overall I would highly recommend this product.

Beautifully Made
This is a beautifully crafted pot with a tight-fitting lid. It came well packaged and with (Japanese) instructions. I just performed the seasoning process, which involves boiling water in the pot then adding a flour slurry to seal the pores in the clay. This can also be done with a rice porridge, but in any event, you’ll want to seal the clay to assure a long life and easy care- instruction can be found on YouTube and elsewhere on the internet. Can’t wait to cook up my first hot pot and/or Shabu-Shabu/Teri-Yaki!!

Quality is very bad
After several uses, I noticed some quality issues—there are now several small holes. I’m not sure if it’s safe or durable enough for continued use. The design is great, but the quality doesn’t seem to hold up as expected. I hope the manufacturer can address these issues in future versions.

An indispensable cookware in our winter kitchen
Not only clay pots keep the food warm while eating, but they are much more efficient in cooking big pot of soup or stew than expensive metal cookwares. We're so pleased with getting this large size clay pot at such good price. It's so energy efficient and we won't go back to heavy All-Clad for making soups anytime soon.

Not flat bottom
Bottom is not flat and have to return. So sorry. Cannot work with my induction top.

Great cookware but it needs seasoning before use!
This is excellent cookware. Attractive, sturdy, and it was packaged well and no damage on arrival. The only thing buyers should know is that the instructions are in Japanese. If you can't read Japanese, be sure to go to the manufacturer's website and look up how to season the pot before use. If you don't take this step before you cook, it might stain or get damaged. The seasoning process is simple, but there are no English instructions and people might not realize it needs this.

By far this Hanmade Donabe bowl is the best i could find anywhere.
I have been looking for months for a on stove claypot that I could Gift my Fiance and wow this authentic Japanese Handmade Donabi Pot did not disappoint. We have a stand alone claypot that we make stews, soups, and rice in and wanted something similar but for stove top to start making more traditional asian soups and dishes. This clay pot not only provides us with great flavor but is so beautifully crafted that it deserves well over 5 stars - you will not regret this purchase and might, like us, start a new addiction.Aloha and hope this helps.Chris
