Easy to use/install and look great
I got two of these to install pendant lights in our kitchen to replace the "can" lights in the ceiling. The first one I had to struggle a bit then realized I was misinterpreting the instructions which actually were clear, it was me. The 2nd one I did without even looking at the instructions - was a breeze. Make sure you have an appropriate ladder, as you will be working up there on the ceiling for a while especially on the first one you do, getting familiar with it. At the end of the day, it looks great and nobody would ever know that there was once a can light there! If your can fixture is well mounted and supported, the conversion kit will provide a very strong solution and it says in the instructions can even be used for ceiling fans.

Good product
The package I received was easy to follow with the directions that came with it. The directions contain pictures as well as detailed descriptions. I had mine up in about 30 minutes. The only complaint I had was that the parts were probably manufactured in China and the quality was not there. An example would be that it came with 3 machine screws and 3 wing nuts to tighten onto those screws. One of the wing nuts was too big for the screw. It was little defects like these that caused me to have to replace a couple parts with items I had on hand.

Pros and cons
First off, they do the job much more cheaply than an electrician replacing the can with a j-box, then needing to patch the ceiling. I installed 2 in my living room, and installed near-ceiling lights with 3" canopies. It works. However, there are drawbacks. The plastic disks they include to fill the gap between the canopy and the outside of the can look like crap (off-white) and they hate paint. I could not get them to lie flat against my white ceiling and had to caulk and paint; if I did not look crossly at the plastic the paint stayed on, barely. Difficult to get them centered so they show evenly around the canopy. Also, they are not certified for remodel fixtures. How do you know if you have a remodel fixture? You tear out the can, or cut into the drywall around it, and see how it is attached to the joists. I just took my chances, but would not do it with a fan.I am about to order another one in spite of all. But I am ordering a 6.5" canopy for my new fixture so I don't have to look at the plastic ring. With a $40 price tag for this item, the plastic ring is a cheap compromise.
