Not perfect but useful
Overall I think this guide has lots of good info. I would definitely recommend allowing yourself at least 6 weeks to go through the whole thing. I read 5 to 10 pages a day and it was a lot of information to retain. I had about 4 weeks before my test when I first got this and had to really cram at the end to get through the whole book. There are some good testing strategies and the practice test was a good example of the test questions in my opinion. I did pass my test the first time I took it but I honestly think the test is more about choosing the right answer based off of knowing how to take the test rather than choosing the answer based on information. Meaning a lot of the questions present more than one right answer and you have to pick the best right answer. I hate these tests and the tricks they try to play. The testing strategies in the book helped me pick the best answers. There are numerous variations of the test, which is why the book has so much info. There was information in the book on the test, but there was also stuff on the test I never saw in the book. But....the book has so much I couldn't get through it all or retain it all so it may have been in there and I just dont remember or didn't get to it all.My suggestion instead of reading the whole book is skip over the information you feel the most comfortable with or you think you know the best, and really focus on the information you're not so well versed in.I've been a teacher for 6 years and have taken many state tests so I think that really helped me. There were also some questions in there that if you've taught before were easy to know from experience, but there was also info in there I've never seen in my life.I actually really liked reading through the guide because it gave me lots of ideas and was a good refresher on my teaching strategies and how I could be better. It also just some really cool and interesting information.I dont think youre guaranteed to pass if you buy this but it definitely can't hurt you to use it and seemed to help me.

Passed the exam the 1st time
I used this book combined with an interactive course and passed the exam on the first attempt. I strongly believe the book has to be combined with a second resource of study (like online course) in order to expand the content you are learning. Be aware that the exam present a lot of questions that requires analysis and application of knowledge for variable scenarios. In other words, take your time to study until you are familiar with all the topics presented in the book. I will definitely recommend the book but always use a secondary study resource.

Didn't help me pass.
The book doesn't reflect the test. Questions to test are situational, and there's alot of info in the book thats repeated and irrelevant. I took the test and after the first time using the book I missed it by 6 points but I just used common sense and my athletic background. If you haven't worked in education but have experience coaching you might pass without the book.

Bought it, read it in a week, PASSED THE TEST YESTERDAY!
Just as the title for this review reads... I PASSED! Now, here's my review and why I *think* you should consider this book. The book has 101 worth of study material. There are no numbered chapter per se, just sections, some quite a few pages long, some, only a couple. There are no pictures, but for me personally, I didn't really need them. All I did was read this book this past week, say, 15-20 pages each day, and on Saturday (the day of my test), I took the sample test, two pages at a time (about 14 questions or so per two pages), because I was kind of cutting it short on time. Every two pages, I would check my answers in the back of the book, and after about 4 pages, I had to stop because I needed to go and get ready for the test. I got about 68% correct, so even then I felt confident (the NCSF Personal Trainer exam required a 62% passing). The back part of the book explains each answer in great detail. Maybe someone out there might be able to pass the exam just by going over the practice test and answers, who knows? Anyway, so I get ready and drive all the way to the test center. I got there about 15 minutes before the 30 minutes they ask you to arrive before your test time, and I quickly read more of the answers. Once it was time, I went into the test center and began my test. Now, I am not allowed to tell you what's on the test. However, I can tell you that most of it is NOT in this book. Now, I can imagine you're asking yourself, "Why in the world would I buy this book if most of its contents aren't on the test?". I'm not sure if there's subliminal messages in this book, but I somehow knew the answers to most of the questions right away. I somehow knew the answers to some specific questions that I would normally forget. Also, and I believe someone else mentioned this in their review, but the practice test in this book is much more difficult than the actual test! I guess that's a good thing. So, how did I pass? Like I said, I read this book in exactly the way I described. I didn't even take the entire practice test. I was so confident in my answers, I only marked 3 for review, and I finished the test with a little over an hour to spare (the test is supposed to take 2 1/2 hours). Now, it also helped that I have been a teacher for almost six full school years, and that I am a special education teacher at that. I have also taken the English 6-12 test as well as the Elementary grades test, heck, even the NCSF exam (which I missed by only 1 percentage point, ouch). The NCSF exam is waaaaay more difficult than this one. There you have it. If you feel confident in purchasing the book after reading my review, please hit the Like or Thanks button. This book worked for me, and I feel it was written in a way that I was able to answer the questions confidently and quickly. Oh, by the way, there will be questions on the test that come from way out of left field, I'm talking about super-random stuff that I don't think any study guide will prepare you for. Use common sense, and get ready to pass!
