OrbitJar-Top Diaphragm

Save hours on replacing an entire valve--first try just changing the diaphram
I saw on a You Tube video that most of the time the only thing that fails in a valve is the diaphram. After spending many hours replacing valves when another valve was leaking I thought to try it. It worked perfectly and took me about 20 minutes total. Have a few of these parts on hand. I would also add that it is important to clear the valve of debris before putting in the new diaphram. Simply remove the top of the valve and turn on the water it will press everything out, turn off the water, replace the diaphram. Works great. I have done this now on two other valves.

Quick repair to jar top sprinkler control valve
This complete kit is necessary, as the diaphragm wears out, but often people overlook the need to replace the seat which is part of the kit. Replace both in minutes, after turning off water supply to the entire sprinkler system, and water leaks to the sprinkler heads through a leaky control valve stop.

Good as new
Our local pro-level source stopped carrying Orbit and suggested replacing the whole valve. This part did the job a a fraction of the cost and effort. My system is 10 years old so I ordered two to have one on hand.

Actual Use
Rating 4 1/2 why ? Because I would like to see if it gives me a solid two years, leak free. If it does, I'll add to the review. The manufacturer confirmed that this was the correct "kit" for my five year old orbit. Note: identification numbers change, confusing the purchaser, Tips: First take a picture when you take the valve apart, clean and rinse the interior, silicone spray or standard plumbers grease WILL NOT hurt anything ! When I put it together and blew through the valve with my mouth, air went through it. good ? or bad ? I have had these leak before. To test them properly (before going through all the work putting them back in my geo thermal heat pump system and not working) I bought adapters at Lowes: garden faucet (hose bib) to 3/4 mpt pvc male thread. You screw the male end into the orbit, you pressurize water to normal water pressure, and then I use an 18 volt cordless battery pack to energize the 24 volt AC coil on the Orbit. (Most of the time you can use 12 volts or higher, should be higher, to energize a 24 volt AC solenoid. (It takes water signal pressure to completely close the diaphragm properly. With pressure the valve stayed shut. With voltage the valve opened ! Remove voltage, valve shuts, drip stops. A pass on the rebuild ! Next step, install in system with teflon tape. In my case I l had put pvc unions on inlet and outlet sides of valve (makes removing the whole valve easier)

It did what is was suppose to do, prevent leaks and control the flow.

Works beautifully! Easy to install. Fixed sprinkler valve that wouldn't shut off anymore....
OMG! Don't know if this is a new product or what, but how I wish I had been able to purchase that earlier! Every year when I had leaky valves, I used toe replace the whole top assembly (solenoid, spring, and diaphragm). This year, again I had one zone for which the heads would not close down and would keep watering the lawn even after electricity to the solenoid was turned off. This time, instead of replacing the whole top assembly for my Orbit 57467, I simply replaced the diaphragm! And voila, problem solved. 5 minutes. $5 instead of $16.And if you buy these diaphragm in bulk, you can get them between $3-$4.Better than replacing the top portion of the Orbit 57467.Highly recommend you stock up on these, if they're compatible with your Orbit valves.

Made this consumer sprinkler valve work again, but still plan to upgrade in the future
The original diaphragms were made of defective material, have all stopped properly after about 5 years. These were the 3-valve manifolds sold at home depot in the past. After replacing with these new diaphragms, still find that the solenoid has to be adjusted properly and are pretty touchy -- or maybe when the seals seat this will be less of a problem. These are somewhat cheap home-grade valves (not commercial grade), and a least you can take them apart and clean them. Higher end valves don't really need cleaning and should be trouble free for 15-20 years or more, but at 2x or 3x the price. I have used better valves in other parts of my yard (I have 26 total) with no problems experienced at all -- but have always had to mess with these (after seeing brown grass). I used 12 of them since they looked convenient to install and serviceable, but they turned out to be a bad investment. For now just plan to replace all diaphragms rather then dig up the valve boxes and do PVC work over the weekend. Next time I would go with commercial grade values again, such as the Irritrol 1" Ultra Flow Value which are very nice but $$$.

Most common repair need...
My drip irrigation system bypasses the house water treatment system including a fine filter, so our well water winds up pumping silt and fine sand into the valves and emitters. The major issue has been ALL brands of irrigation valves failing about every other year. I bought a pack of three of these since they seem to usually fix the issue. However the eroded green surface of the jar top was today's culprit and I was glad to have a spare complete valve from the home store. The solenoid has only rarely been the issue for me.I'm really tempted to get a motorized ball valve for this, but the ones I have seen don't seem to work with the irrigation controller I use (pos 24VAC=valve open). Would appreciate if someone knows of an appropriate valve.

ring did not fit
I ordered this for an old valve repair. The new ring did not fit in the housing but the membrane seems OK. Did not try the repaired valve

It fits!
Take out the old, put in the new, walla!! No leaks! If you have an old (20 plus) Orbit sprinkler system, with the 'old' valves this diaphragm ROCKS.

Very Happy
Kept having leaks appear within my system, could not understand why, so I took a shot, ordered the seal kits and installed 4 kits into 4 manifolds and no more leaks.. Very happy with the product.
