Works as advertised, FireWire 400 to USB 2. Got as a solution to unique problem (older audio equipment), works just fine!

I plugged the adapter into a USB port on my PC, a Firewire cable into the adapter and the other cable end into my older iPod. I hoped Plug 'n Play would find the adapter and install the 1394 drivers, but that didn't happen. Instead, the iPod socket got VERY hot and developed that "burned electronics" smell and now the iPod display does not show. I have the standard 1394 charger from Apple, never a problem with charging.The link given for a 1394 driver provided by the vendor is a dead link and gives the message that "This page can’t be displayed.”Did I do something wrong? I don't think the driver would have prevented an over-current situation, it seems it just is not compatible with Apple iPods.Returned for refund

I'm not sure why this item is even available for sale. After doing some research, I realize that the vast majority of people have had no success with this type of converter. I falsely assumed that a quick fix for not having a firewire port on my computer would be this type of converter. But I actually needed a firewire card as firewire will only work off of a USB external hub and those that have their own power. You can get an external hub with the adapter built in but all options bring the speed down below usb which invalidates the whole point of firewire. If the device you are trying to connect is a camera or any kind of synced data acquisition, you'll need the card as I did.

I used this adapter on two laptops and on both it caused a power glitch upon connecting. The PC instantly shut off and would not start. I figured it was something with the PC so I tried on a Macbook Pro and it did the same thing. Unfortunately the PC laptops’s motherboard got fried, I couldnt start the Mac for a while and luckily I found. a power cycling video that allowed me to reset the surge protection and was lucky that it still worked. For some it has worked but after going two for two I would proceed with caution if you absolutely need this for any reason.

I bought this adapter hoping to connect an old external fire-wire hard drive to my PC access some music files I had ripped from my CDs years ago. The device did not work or facilitate any connection between the two. The external hard drive didn’t appear to be getting any power through the adapter.

I’m using presonus mixing board. And on my pc just doesn’t work. And my Mac massage about my usb disabled do usb asking for too much power
