Squid: The Definitive Guide

As a relative newbie working on a SOHO sized install, I was looking for an "intermediate guide" that would help take me to the next level and teach me how to really make my installs scale and stay rock solid. Some chapters (such as disk caching) were very helpful but most assumed a lot of knowledge that I simply don't have. If I can find the intermediate text somewhere and read it, this book would be more useful. It's probably a good find for someone who knows their squid well and is looking o work on a larger scale commercial install. If you think that's you - ignore my 3 stars and give it a try.

This book is no longer current and needs to be revised to cover the latest releases of Squid. It provides good background to the origins of Squid and the ways it can be configured and deployed. Unfortunately, there are many new configuration directives that didn't exist in the version of Squid this book covers. You'll have to augment the info in this book with your own research on google or at the product web site.

A very good book, Shows you all the basics and how squid can work and how should be configured.Many directives, and many fun cases where squid can be used are explained.I think I will re-read again this book when I need use squid

Interesting book if you are plan to use Squid proxy server. You will get general idea how this proxy server works. It's awesome for starter and average level system administrator. Well written and packed with lots of samples for better understanding.

Squid is one of the best Caching Proxy Servers ever written. If you are looking to improve internet performance and security by implementing a Caching Proxy then i highly reccomend it!

This book was a lifesaver when I needed to configure a proxy server on the fly. Good, clear explanations and detailed examples.

then get this one. I learned enough about the reasons for using it and also how to configure it to authenticate against an LDAP server.Well worth getting and keeping on your shelf.

Maintaining Squid is soooo much easier with this book.All of the smart features that Squid offers are covered in great detail in this book.I give this book 5 stars - every beginner AND expert of Squid should have this book. It's an essential part of your 'Squid Toolbox'.It's easy to read, descriptive, lots of examples and really enables you to use Squid to its full potential.
