Working great for several months keeping cattle in. Good value. No problems

Lots of zap for those dang critters that like to destroy gardens full of goodies. I used it to surround a grape vine. You could visibly see where the deer had gotten upset and stomped around like angry teenagers that they couldn't get through the electric fence.

I attached the charger to the metal dangly end on the fence and then attached the ground connector to a 3 ft grounding rod.At first I didn't think it was working but someone advised me to touch the ground then touch the fence because my rubber shoes were interfering, and sure enough then I could tell it was working!11/13/021: I just set up my second charger and electric poultry fence. Gallagher provides the red and green alligator clips and I buy the 3 ft ground T-post. I was intimidated on my first hook up but it's so simple with the provided clips. Nothing else to buy.

Worst purchase! Bought the Gallagher G345404 S40 Solar Fence Charger and Upgraded YCFERESY Electric Fence Polywire, 4 ground rods, Heavy Duty Inline Ratchet Tensioner, Black Electric Screw-in Insulator Fence Ring for Wood Post and Zareba ITY-Z Standard Snug-fitting T-Post Insulator. After we got it set up and verified the Gallagher working by the steady green indicator light we connected the alligator clip to the wire and the ground the light flashed red and we had no current.We rechecked everything and made sure there was no foliage touching the polywire but still had no current. Next we replaced the polywire with 14 gauge Aluminum Electric Fence Wire but that had the same effect; green first, connect the alligator clip, red flashing light and no current. Next we contacted the company who suggested switching out the Gallagher. After we switched it we found out they would not refund the original. The second one had the same results as the original. So we have spent nearly $800 on defective solar and are searching alternate options.

We struggled for years to keep the deer out of our garden with fences of various kinds, and finally resorted this year to four strands of electric tape and this charger. We've had total success with it so far. It's been an expensive project, but if we're going to have a garden without fighting the deer all season, this is certainly the way to do it. This is more expensive as some other models, and I don't know if it's better than the others, but I only wanted to make the purchase once and this had good reviews and does the job. We also have a plug-in electric fence around our horse pasture to make the horses respect their fence and, based on the power output measuring device that we use, this solar charger is putting out the same level of power as the plug in model we have for the horses. (The garden was not close enough to the barn to plug in, so we had to go with solar). So far it has been an excellent purchase.

It is not working. Need to get my money back.

Works very well and am impressed by the voltage output

Worked great for the first 8 months and then randomly started dying every time we would have a cloudy day. Called customer service and they informed me that some of these models had a bad board and that it was covered under warranty. We sent it in after they assured us they have a 72 hr turn around time. Well spent a pretty penny overnighting the unit to them to minimize the time our animals were safely contained by the fence. Well… it’s been 10 days, my colt has now discovered the fence isn’t on and broke out 3 times, and a wild stallion almost broke INTO my fence (why we chose the Wildlife Model in the first place- to keep our horses in and wild horses OUT). It’s been a massive headache, and for a company that sells equipment made specifically for livestock, it’s pretty unprofessional to drag their feet while their customer’s animals are escaping.
