My Dad started the tradition in our nuclear family to gift new homeowners a hearth cricket, so when a friend of mine got into her first house, I felt like this would be a great gift, even if the house no longer had a fireplace. It has a great bookcase where the fireplace was. I took an extra step and researched where the tradition even started. Ended up buying a copy of Dickens original story to go with.

We recently purchased a new home and it's the very first one I've ever lived in with a fireplace. After doing a little research on how to care for one, I came across the cricket for good luck story. Since we all use a little luck, I ordered one. It arrived fully assembled and sturdy. I have him on the hearth and he looks great. Since I have a 4-year-old, I have him behind the screen for now, so we will see if anyone notices him. When she is older, I will put him in front.

We bought it as a Christmas present and good luck charm for our daughter's fireplace. We liked the craftmanship but we thought it would be bigger than it was. It was only about half the size we expected.
