Correct US sizing
As someone else mentioned, there are some other brands for sale with barbs that are exactly 1/4" in diameter. But standard fitting sizes for tubing are based on the interior diameter of the tubing, and thus the barbs actually need to be slightly larger to ensure a snug fit and prevent leaks. These are the larger ones that are compatible with US sizes.
