I teach religious education so I thought I was fairly well up on Scripture. This book helped me realize there is a whole lot more to Scripture than I had taken time to consider. Scripture as God's Word (divinely revealed). Scripture as a history of God's plan for salvation. Scripture as a record of God's Covenants (5 OT, 1 NT). Scripture as a book - translations, types of criticism, commentaries, etc. Scripture in worship - Liturgy, Liturgy of Word, Lectionary, Homily, Scriptural Threads, use in Sacraments. Scripture as prayer -- Liturgy of the Hours, The Psalms, The Office of Readings. Scripture as light for our daily life - devotions that use Scripture (Rosary, etc.) And the tables! Wow! Lists of all the Scriptures used at Mass, used in the Liturgy of the Hours, Overview of OT story and covenants, Overview of NT stories, parables, etc. If you love Scripture you will LOVE THIS BOOK!

An OUTSTANDING, scholarly work!! A little too deep to use for some RCIA classes, it gives a great in depth look at the history and overview of How the Bible was written.

I bought these for all my Parish School of Religion teachers, all my Middle school teachers, and all my LifeTeen teachers.A must have for ministry. Kids ask all kinds of questions about the Bible, and this book is well laid out, informative, and concise.Would recommend it for anyone who wants to seriously read the Bible. It answers a lot of practical questions and defines terms, give historical background, and offers the links of Scripture to our beliefs, our practice, and our Catholic teachings. You need this book!

The book is o.k. I have other resource books that I think are more informative and user friendly. Just an ok reference book.
