Living with Coco Chanel: The homes and landscapes that shaped the designer

If you've read all the other Chanel bios, this book is for you.
Love this book!! Great pics not seen elsewhere in other Coco bios, as well as info not typically addressed in such depth in the other bios. Most Coco bios focus on her life & this one does also, but much more focus is on her residences during these events in her life, with pics of those homes.

So fun to read
Loved this book. Great history and great photos from late 1800’s/early 1900’s.

Not worth the space on your shelf.
Definitely a disappointment. Where are the photos? When the title of your book has the words “homes and landscapes” in it you would think there’d be lots of photos, but sadly no there almost none. Most of the photos are of the fashions of Chanel. The famous hallways of her childhood orphanage are talked about but no photos, why?

Coco and her Inspirations
Overall I enjoyed reading this book. This book focuses on the residences and how they influenced her fashion designs. Along with the text there are lots of illustrations. I esp liked the photographs of her early homes. The writing was good and the book was easy to read. Enjoy

Spend time with an icon
People have mixed feelings about Coco Chanel. She is both known for her amazing fashion sense and for her apparent collaboration with the Germans during WW II. However readers may feel about Coco, this book will provide an extensive look at who she was, what influenced her, the places she lived and, of course, her fashions. It is an insightful and interesting look at a woman who lived a dramatic and creative life. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this read in exchange for an honest review.

Great Book
Living with Coco Chanel by Caroline Young is a great reference for anything and everything about this intriguing woman.Love her or dislike her, she was a genius in her own right, despite her flaws. One has to give her props for never taking a back seat in the drive of her life. This is a fascinating read, and I learned quite a few more things about this complex woman. The author clearly has done her research.4/5 stars

Chanel: Place as Design Inspiration
This intriguing bio provides a unique look at famed fashion designer Coco Chanel by focusing on place as context for her creations. She of the classic suits with pearls aswirl was greatly impacted by the homes and landscapes of her life, including the Aubazine convent of her childhood (think of her demure jacket necklines), to her Parisian appartement and boutique on Rue Cambon, as well as her villa, La Pausa, on the French Riviera.Fully illustrated with drawings, designs, contemporary photos, and archival images that bring Coco’s storied background to life. 5/5Pub Date 03 Sep 2019.Thanks to Caroline Young, Quarto Publishing Group - White Lion Publishing, and NetGalley for the review copy. Opinions are mine.#LivingWithCocoChanel #NetGalley

Beautiful, Informative Work!
Who hasn't heard of Chanel? But, how many of us know much if anything about the life and body of work of this amazing woman? Coco Chanel is legendary. Thanks to Caroline Young, this beautiful book provides an in depth look into the life of an amazing artist. The impressive photographs greatly enhance this well researched and carefully assembled work. This sort of behind the scenes look helps paint a full picture of Chanel and her loves and influences. I learned so much and really enjoyed reading this great book.

A beautiful and fascinating read.
This is an excellent read. It is a beautiful book - definitely worthy of Ms Chanel. As always, the author, Caroline Young, has excelled in her research. She has discovered lots of interesting facts about this fashion icon. The photographs in the book are wonderful. All in all, this is a must read and I had no hesitation in awarding it 5 stars

Not really as advertised
This is an OK book, bordering on BASIC! But an OK book.Despite the subtitle "The homes & landscapes that shaped the designer" is not really a book about the spaces Gabrielle inhabited or how they shaped her, it is however a redux of basically every single book about her life already published sprinkled with a little bit of AD wannabe-ism. There are barely any photos of such spaces (18 out of 122, with another 17 being modern views of some places like Paris, the Eiffel tower, Aubazine, Roquenbrune etc. And the other 87 pictures you've probably seen before somewhere across the internet)The production quality of the book surpassed expectations, it's sewn not just glued, the paper is good if not amazing and all the pictures are well printed. If I were to ignore the actual text this would get 5 stars but unfortunately it needs some editing on the layout on the page and corrections to the notes; the main text is printed only on the outer edges of the pages and the captions are near the center (even when such wide margins near the spine aren't needed because it lays flat very easily because it's not glued) except when it's not and the main text is suddenly near the spine for no reason. The numbering of the notes in chapters 2 to 4 was also overlooked it starts obviously with number one on the first chapter and continues with #37 on chapter 2, on chapter 3 they're reset to 1 but then in chapter 4 you're suddenly in note 117 and then the Count resets again to 1 in each of the remaining 7 chapters. In the end notes they are listed starting at 1 for every chapter. As a final note, if you're expecting a book with powdery pink covers you'll be surprised to see that they are instead a very bright pinkish coral, almost neon.If you're paying full price (30 usd) I'll recommend you search a physical copy before deciding to buy it even if this is your first ever Chanel book and you're dying to get one. If you already have many wait for a sale because I don't think it's worth it (and it's allmost the price of a little something at the CHANEL beauty counter)

Very interesting book showing other sides of Coco Chanel
Have read many books written about Chanel - this one described more of her personal creative thoughts than others.Highly recommend to people interested in fascinating characters.
