Blur is a British rock band that formed in London in 1988. The group consists of singer/guitarist Damon Albarn, guitarist/singer Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree. Blur's debut album Leisure (1991) incorporated the sounds of Madchester and shoegazing. The follow-up, Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993), was more experimental, influenced by British guitar pop groups such as The Kinks and The Jam. Parklife (1994) became the band's best-selling album and won multiple Brit Awards, including Best British Album. Blur experienced renewed success with the release of 13 (1999), which entered the UK chart at number one. The album contained the Britpop anthem "Tender", which helped propel the band to mainstream success in the US. Following a lengthy hiatus, Blur released The Magic Whip (2015), their first album in 12 years. Blur are considered one of the most important bands of the Britpop era. Their mix of pop hooks, experimentalism, wit and working-class sensibility made them one of the most acclaimed and influential groups of their time. In 2012, NME ranked Blur at number 30 in its list of the "50 Greatest British Albums of All Time".
