a great general purpose guide to the area
Overall, a great general purpose guide to the area, and well written. By necessity, it does not contain a huge amount of detail on most areas or it would be too big to throw in your pack, but it will get you to the crags and introduce you to a lot of the classics. I found more routes missing from the photos and line drawn topos than in other guides, but overall this is a must-have for a general overview.FWIW: If you are new to this area, be aware of the sandbag factor at some of the local crags. If you climb 5.12 at the gym or at many places out west, I'd suggest starting with a 9+ or 10a at Seneca and take it from there...

Simply a Must-Have for the Region
This book has info on the region that you can't find anywhere else. Horst's coverage of Old Rag is the most extensive of any resource available. If you want to climb in Shenandoah National Park, this book is worth it just for that area alone. Now, for Seneca and the New, this book will get you started, but plenty of other books have been written on those areas that are more in depth. The topos of Elizabeth Furnace, Franklin Gorge, Maryland Heights, and Sugarloaf Mountain are extremely helpful.

Half-done, semi-useful
Book is an ok overview. Lacks photos or drawings that would help find the climbs except in the case of areas for which there are much better guides readily available. Areas without better guides have almost no information. Book also skips many areas referencing the better guides. It is sort of useful, but half-done. MP has better information now.

A fine guidebook
I bought this guidebook to have all of the MD, VA, WV in one book rather than carrying around a few small ones for areas like Great Falls and Carderock. It's a fine guidebook. It boasts color pictures, but some pictures are only line drawings. The line drawings are somewhat more difficult to interpret, but you get there eventually.
