Solid wood cabinets - no pressboard - excellent quality.
I bought this file cabinet (two of them, actually) from Amazon after conducting a fairly exhaustive search for *real* wood file cabinets. Most everything I saw everywhere was junk - cheap particleboard for the most part, and the stuff that was wood wasn't anything to write home about. I finally found these on Amazon and had my reservations because for $130 each I didn't have much in the way of expectations. They were delivered yesterday, by my useless/lazy UPS guy, who left them in the driveway in a pouring rain storm rather than putting them another 10 feet further on my covered front porch. Both boxes were saturated, so I thought I might be in trouble. The packaging is excellent - the cabinets were packed surrounded by styrofoam on all sides, such that the actual cabinet parts had no contact with the cardboard boxes at all. From there, my thoughts:1. It took about 1.5 hours to put the first one together, and maybe a little under an hour to put the second one together. The instructions are in English. They're in really small typeset, so you might need your reading glasses, but they sound like they were written by a native speaker. The directions were exactly right. I'm a skilled person - I built a house before - so if you are not, it might take you a little longer to put it together, but it's not difficult and you don't need a second person.2. These things are SOLID wood, and I mean all of it - the top, the drawer front, sides, and back, the cabinet sides, the rails. The only parts that weren't solid wood were the drawer bottoms - thin plywood - and the cabinet back - also thin plywood. No idea what the species is but it's not pine. Nevertheless, everything is constructed of solid wood - even the hidden braces and parts like that. Even the pull knobs are solid wood.3. Cabinets are made in Vietnam according to the labels on the cabinet. No odd smells from the cabinet, but I noticed my garage smelled a little funky from the packaging this morning.4. All of the hardware was there, and in the exact amounts needed. Everything was labeled properly. It comes with an anti-tip bracket, which is really just a zip-tie and a metal picture loop that screws to the wall. If you use some common sense you don't need it, i.e. don't pull totally full drawers out all the way sitting in thin air.5. Once it's put together it is heavy. You wouldn't want to move it far with the drawers in it, and forget about moving it around when it's full of files.Overall, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about these cabinets. The construction quality is very impressive, especially for the price and that it's from overseas. The drawers pull out most of the way - about 80% - so the last couple of files you have to pull forward to access - but other than that it is a very nice looking piece of furniture, light years ahead of the junk I found at the two major brick & mortar places and beyond anything else I found online.

Beautiful Hardwood File Cabinet, Professionally Made, and Easy to Put Together
It took a while to get this because of the holiday rush, but I have to say it was well worth the wait. It's solid hard wood. It came well-packed in a box. All the small pieces, like screws, etc., were sealed and labeled on a card, so none were missing. Screws were made of good, strong metal, so didn't strip like with some you get these days. All holes were predrilled. The wood had no mars or scratches, even around the predrilled holes. It was amazingly easy to put together, even for an old lady like me. With over 20 years in the Army, I moved around a lot and so put together a lot of small furniture like bookcases, etc. This was nothing like that. It's heavy wood, fantastic quality, and looks even better than it did in the online picture. I'd recommend this to anybody. It's beautiful! Thank you so much.

Pretty piece, two small flaws.
The file cabinet is as pictured in the photo. It's made of solid wood and is stained nicely. It's relatively easy to put together. It took about an hour or 90 minutes. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because the wood at the edges of the top and sides was sometimes rough and a little splintered. Not terribly, but enough for the piece not to be smooth and well done. it could easily be sanded out, but I wouldn't want to have to refinish the whole thing. Also, we never connected the board at the back because there were not any pre-drilled holes for the screws. It requires something like 14 screws and no holes to put them in. We could drill the holes ourselves, but I worry that the wood is too thin at that part and we might split it. So for now, it's against the wall and not noticeable. But it seems like an obvious error in construction and something the manufacturer should address. So if you're reading this, manufacturer, please drill those holes. Thanks

Bummer but a Pretty Picture
Funny that “sheerness” was one of the descriptors suggested by the seller. It’s furniture ; sheerness has nothing to do with it. Except that it was a sheer pain in the derrière to assemble, so there’s that. You know those self assembly tables and chairs from Ikea where all the holes are predrilled, the joints are flush, and the preset bolt receivers are perfectly positioned? Well, this was not one of those. Like a lot of the stuff coming out of the Chinese sphere of influence, this piece looks good in a photograph. But the bottom line is function, and what you end up with is a filing cabinet with drawers that don’t slide, are not properly aligned on the square, and will not shut completely. The whole thing seems to have been dipped in some kind of epoxy. At one point I had to dig a bolt receiver out of the plastic gunk with my pen knife. Wood splits when you screw the screws into the receiving holes that are drilled. For $150 I expected a functional filing cabinet. Alas, it was not to be. I just read five of the other reviews on this product. All I can say is the very first of these to arrive from Vietnam to the United States must have been fabricated by different craftsmen or the reviewers are doing the fabricating, if you catch my drift. It is in no way an acceptable piece of furniture. Don’t waste your money or your time.

Great purchase!
We were looking for a filing cabinet that could be used as a side table and not look like a filing cabinet. This unit fits perfectly for our needs, it looks great in our living room providing much need file storage. The drawers do not completely extend making it a bit of a challenge reaching the back files but not much of an issue just be aware if you need to use the cabinet on a regular basis. The screws provided for the knobs were too short, we decided to change the wooden knobs anyways so not an issue for us. Take your time assembling and it should go smoothly. Exceeded our expectations!
