Not the best for VOC-sensitive folks or lightweight side sleepers; Aveena foam is nice
(Wife): Below is my initial take on this mattress. If things improve a skosh, the rating may jump to three stars if I can change it later. Background on my purchase:I am a VOC-sensitive lighter-weight (135 lbs) mostly side sleeper. Due to a past mattress issue, I have some nerve pain in my outer thighs. Crazy as it sounds, I still find it easiest to fall asleep on my side. So, finding a soft mattress with support is pretty important for me.We purchased a Leesa for a rental property we are renting at that has a bad, pressure-point coil mattress that has been exacerbating my nerve pain (and causing me some insomnia -- even after adding a quality foam topper that I normally love). Our mattress set at home is a Tempur-Pedic Breeze, which causes me to sink deeper than I care for and definitely sleeps way hotter than any mattress I've owned before. (No joke, it's a Breeze model. We specifically made sure of that, because my husband sleeps hot normally. My sleeping on my side seems to trap the air and lead to the hot spots. It's very annoying to have to "jump" out of those depressions and form new ones elsewhere on the mattress to compensate for the heat problem. So, part of the incentive in trying a Leesa was the bounciness / less depression of the Aveena foam, vs. memory foam.)Claim: Leesa is good for side sleepersTruth: False for lighter-weight women like me; probably ok for back sleepersI was told that the Leesa was a good mattress for side sleepers. Maybe if you weigh more than I do, it might work. This mattress is more of a medium-firm. There is some softness, but I would say not enough for me as a light side sleeper. It's just a little too firm. It isn't terrible for me, but I've slept on softer / "better".The Leesa may be, however, a reasonable mattress for someone of my weight who sleeps on their back (although that will vary). I did find it reasonably comfortable in that way, until I woke up later, due to my firm pillow causing me some minor -- and I do mean minor -- neck pain that could probably be corrected with the right pillow. So, OK, I go on a hunt for the right pillow. I honestly think that this would (hopefully) be a reasonably fixable problem. But, I don't know.Claim: Leesa does not off-gas, or the VOCs aren't bad or don't last that longTruth: Our Leesa's off-gassing has been problematic for us for a few days so far and actually got worse with attempts to air things outOff-gassing has been a problem with our Leesa mattress.I am sensitive to fumes. I can deal with trace amounts for a day; but prolonged exposure causes me headaches, lethargy, malaise, irritability and tends to exacerbate pre-existing GI problems. While I would agree with some other viewers that the off-gassing hasn't been horrendous, it has been moderate enough for my husband to notice, and he doesn't pick up on scents as easily as I do. He also hasn't been in the bedroom where the mattress is, but in the living room and kitchen. He cooked us dinner, and he still smelled the VOCs. Outside the bedroom. That has its windows open (and the fan going) for ventilation. Would you think that to be acceptable? I don't.Will these VOCs go away? I hope so. We've only had the mattress a couple days. It would be nice, but I fear that it may be wishful thinking. The more I try to circulate the air, the more the VOCs seem to be getting worse. I even went out and bought a HEPA air purifier, hoping that would help. Improvement so far has only been minimal and short-lived. Moreover, the air purifier I bought to rectify the VOC problem emits a little bit of a plastic smell. I was very annoyed. I am tired and just want a good night's sleep -- and to be able to breathe clean air in the process.Claim: CertiPur-US ratings / approval means you're getting a safer product with lower VOCsTruth: If Leesa is CertiPur-US-rated/approved, then I'd have to wonder how they perform their testsHow long are people supposed to wait before a mattress is safe and effective to use? I don't know. How does CertiPur-US rate these things? I don't know. I'd like to send them both of our foam mattresses for testing. (We have also had problems with our Tempur-Pedic off-gassing. Only with foam mattresses, not other types so far.)Are these VOC tests simulating real-life conditions?Do they test the mattresses near where people would place their heads? I hope so.How big are the chambers they use for testing? Are they comparable to small bedrooms, like my full mattress Leesa's 10'ishx10'ish room? How do they "air out" the mattresses? Do they just let the mattresses sit there? Do they simulate a mild breeze? What do they do? There has sometimes been a slight breeze outside where we are. But, what about folks who live where they don't get much of a breeze? Does CertiPur-US take this into account?Otherwise, how are their tests actually addressing consumer concern?Other concerns: Longevity? In addition to above concerns, I have noticed a small depression in the Aveena foam on our mattress -- somewhere between the size of a quarter and a fist, I think. It will not pop back up. Is this an indication of the longevity I can expect from the mattress?StrengthsI would note that I slept cooler on the Leesa than on my Tempur-Pedic Breeze mattress. I do prefer the feel of the Aveena foam over standard memory foam. I like how I can reposition myself much more easily on the Leesa than my Tempur-Pedic. So, this mattress is not without strengths for the right consumers.ConclusionSo, while the Leesa mattress is more comfortable in terms of softness and support than the old pressure point-loaded mattress I have been sleeping on -- and probably more comfortable than our Tempur-Pedic, in terms of bounce vs. sinking and less heat (although not firmness vs. softness for me) -- the VOCs make my usage of the Leesa mattress untenable for now. So, it would seem that my main choices for the moment are sleeping on the couch and waiting, hoping things might improve, or sending back the Leesa for something else.Other options, if the Leesa doesn't work for meSo, if the VOCs don't improve that much, what will I do? I may look into latex, water or air mattresses. More likely, I would be inclined simply go back to old-fashioned spring / coil mattresses, and just hope for the best. They had mostly worked for us before our Tempur-Pedic set, anyway. They just need to be replaced as they get old, that's all.

You take it for granted
I've slept on the Leesa for 5 and a half years now and it has been great. I don't remember being too bothered by any initial smell but I think it lasted a few days. I'm not sure what a more comfortable bed would be like. You just end up taking it for granted and don't think about comfort... it's just where comfortable sleep happens.

Very versatile mattress
I was a little hesitant buying this mattress because this mattress wasn't as established on Amazon. There weren't as many reviews as other competitors. I was not shy at all with ordering online though. There really is so little risk with any of these bigger companies. If you don't like it, send it back. Well, they either send someone to take or donate it, or ask for proof of donation. I haven't heard a single horror story returning these mattress from any of the popular online only companies. It beats mattress shopping and salesmen any day. Even if under all the pressure of a salesmen you find the right mattress after laying down for 20 minutes, who knows how you'll feel after a night anyway. My search started with Tuft and Needle. We were about 90% sure we were going to try the mattress but after reading many of the popular mattress review sites we learned of the Leesa. In the end it came down to the Casper or Leesa. I know I'm probably wrong, but the thought the Tuft and needle is essentially made with the materials common car seats or couches are kept bugging me even if it is very well reviewed. When it came down to buy the Casper was back ordered on Amazon so the choice was easy. We've read you really can't go wrong with either. You only get 30 days to try the mattress on Amazon so that was a downside but we wanted it 2 days kind of quick. I highly doubt at day 50 I would suddenly decide the mattress wasn't right. 30 days is plenty, I don't care what mattress companies say to keep you invested in your purchase.Delivery and unpacking was super easy. Took about 5-10 minutes. Your mileage my vary, the easier you can toss around 100 lbs for a king, the quicker it will be. It has its shape within minutes and id say by around 3-4 hours I measured it at its full advertised height give or take a quarter of an inch. Build quality looks great, doesn't feel cheap in the slightest bit. Me personally...we noticed little off gassing at all. I was concerned with that since ventilation in our room. I honestly noticed none unless I held my nose to the mattress within the first hour. By night time, about 8 hours later we noticed nothing sleeping. My dogs jumped on the bed, they typically act skeptical to chemical type smells. Neither were phased. Maybe we were lucky or others have much much more sensitive noses or low tolerances. As far as sleep, it's great. We had mattress shopping troubles because my wife and I are very different sleepers both in preference and position. She is around 145 athletically built and prefers a firm mattress. She is a stomach and back sleeper. I am around 200 also athletically built and am typically a side or back sleeper. I usually prefer a medium type of mattress, on the softer side. If you do your research that's pretty much polar opposites as far as a recommended bed lol. This bed just works. She was immediately in love. The avena foam (a material similar but more durable to latex) gives it a firmer touch more on par with a latex vs memory foam mattress. It has more bounce and not that quicksand feeling if memory foam. It felt a little on the firmer side for my preference at first but when you lay for a minute or so that memory foam feeling of the bed contouring starts to come in and it feels great. We pretty much cover every sleeping position imaginable between the two of us and we couldn't be more satisfied. I would definitely agree this is about a 6-6.5 on the firmness scale. It's very versatile though. In hindsight I think this was our correct choice. I think the tuft and needle may have been perfect for her but left me wanting a little more and settling for a mattress pad on my side to continue sleeping on our side. The Casper I speculate would have left both of us unhappy. It seems to be very dependent on weight for feel. The top is very soft giving it a softer feel compared to the Leesa. However I hear people around my weight and heavier feel it's a firmer mattress, we bottom out closer to the support layer. If you're dynamic is opposite to mine, the lighter sleeper likes soft and the heavier firm that might be great for you. I think it would have left her being lighter feeling it's too soft and myself being heavier feeling the mattress was too firm.I'll update as time goes on but at this time I couldn't be happier.

Great for support and sex
Love our new mattress. Great for the hips when sleeping on my side. Feels like it’s relieving pressure points if you lay like a starfish. We also purchased a high end king size feather topper on amazon for $244 and now we are sleeping on a cloud! Temperature is not an issue at all with the feather topper as I heard foam could be warm. Plush and solid support, Bottom side is firm and top side is medium. Mattress is quiet, great for sex - nice bounce back, sides could be stronger/firmer but nice for getting in and out of bed, easily can sleep 3 adults comfortably without sinking in the middle. We have had for 2 months and would recommend this mattress over a coil mattress. We ordered late on a Sunday night and it arrived Tuesday before noon. Easy to open and set up, not as heavy as we thought it would be to bring in.Update - 3 years in and this bed is still great, no warping or low spots

Leesa best Mattress and best SLEEP Forever.
I bought this mattress in 2017, it’s now 2020, there’s a reason it costs this much. Ive been ready to throw out mattresses by now, it’s the best mattress i’ve ever slept on by a long shot. I’ve had temperpedic, I’ve had Casper, this mattress takes the cake. I weigh 190lbs and I am a 6 ft5 Maintenance man my partner weighs well less and there’s lots of room for us, the cat, sometimes even a kid if they insist, and who wouldn’t? We’ve not been easy on this thing and it still provides an amazing sleep every night. Well we love our leesa, ours never smelled at all out of the box. i’ve had pillows and toppers before that you couldn’t use for a week, this is not that at all. It had no scent in the beginning. We did have an issue with the bed frame under it, but it was cheap and we are heavy lol.I will probably buy another Leesa for our oldest someday, if he is really good....

Unable to wake up in the morning
I have slept on numerous mattresses and none was able to fix the pain I get from my sleeping posture, but Leesa mattress provides such good support that as soon as I started sleeping on it my back problem was gone. The mattress is soft but firm at the same time. It also gives off this cool touch against my skin so I never feel hot in my blankets. I can sleep on my belly or side wise and do not get back sore the night after, which had happened to me quite often on other mattresses. I keep recommending it to my friends because it’s one of the best investments in my life. I look forward to sleep every night. CON: not able to wake up in the morning

Lifechanger! Great firm mattress
I did my research before buying and ended up with the Leesa. I knew it was supposed to be firm, but it was more so than I expected. But my back loves it! It's been great supporting my heavier hips without causing misalignment in my spine, and there's very little motion transfer from my boyfriend who rolls around a lot. I don't overheat with the memory foam technology they use.

Very firm mattress
I really wanted to like this mattress but it is very firm and I wake up with back pain after sleeping on it. It might work better for someone of a heavier build. It appears to be made of very nice material but it is much too firm for me. Unfortunately the return window from Amazon is only 30 days which I didn't realize when I bought this.
