Learning to conduct contested landings from the sea...
This new Osprey Combat Series book discusses the U.S. landings at Salerno, Anzio, and Omaha beachheads during 1943-44. These amphibious assaults have been covered extensively elsewhere, but author Chris McNab has found an interesting angle to study. His focus is on U.S. combat engineers in their initial efforts to open beachheads against their German opponents. The author briefly reviews the overall situation is reviewed for each amphibious operation. The drill-down on the details of the respective combat engineer challenges are quite interesting. The U.S. Army and its combat engineers underwent a formidable learning curve during the amphibious operations in Europe, a learning curve that was still not complete by D-Day, 6th June, 1944.The text is supported with lots of maps and battle diagrams, as well as period photographs and modern illustrations. The narrative is informative and often blunt in assessment. Well recommended as an introduction to a perhaps under-studied topic of World War II.

Good book
Interesting review of US engineering forces versus German soldiers at Salerno, Anzio and at Omaha Beach, Normandy. Just an overview.
