square peg in a round hole!
On my shipment the square part of the bolt under the round head was thicker that the cover plate. I had to take a small triangular file and file the outside holes into square shape to accept the extra thickness or thecover plate would have been loose and flopping around. Would have been 5 stars if not for that.

It works - instructions can be improved
I needed a plate that covered both the door knob latch and the deadbolt. I couldn't find any, so I bought 2 of these, cut both of them at one of the bolt holes (opposite holes) and welded them together. I ground and sanded the welds, primed, painted them with satin nickel paint and clear coated them. I also "opened" the 90* angle that covers the door trim to make that angle slightly obtuse and clear the trim. Here's a few tips for installation - the instructions call for drilling 5/16" mounting holes. 5/16” is too large for a 1/4" bolt. 1. Position and clamp the plate to the door. 2. Mark the holes to be drilled. 3. Remove the plate. 4. Start drilling with a small bit (~ 5/64") to about 1/2" deep - the smaller bit will have less of a tendency to "walk". 5. Complete drilling pilot hole with 1/8" bit paying close attention to keeping the bit perpendicular to the door. 6. After drilling pilot holes, enlarge holes to 17/64". 7. Using a 3/8" bit, enlarge the hole opening on the plate side of the door to 1/8" depth. Enlarging the opening of the hole is for clearing the square shoulder of the carriage bolt. The shoulder of the carriage bolt extends beyond the thickness of the security plate.

Sturdy and effective but overkill for a residence
The latch guard definitely does its job, but it's no prettier in person than in the picture and it's oversized on a regular residential door. The bolts stick out far enough on the inside of the door that extra washers and nuts were necessary to keep it firmly attached. I did appreciate the cap nuts, and so far nothing has gotten snagged.

Simple to install & Good Protection.
This Latch Shield was installed on 3 outward-swing doors, and had good clearance for the strike plate AND was tight-fitting to guard against lock picking.

Will do the job
Heavy duty material and construction, this seems like it will prevent our supply room door from being opened without a key.
